So we're doing coursework on Frankenstein, and I tend to ramble loads.
We had to write a 200 word summary, and I ended up doing 298, not knowing this would be used for our introduction to the coursework. Its far too long! And I really need some help to shorten it, or to write the same sorta thing but in less words...
Yeah, I know that lol. But like I didn't wanna post it and scare everyone off lol.
So this is what I've done tonight...
The book Frankenstein is an account of Victor Frankensteins life, the story is narrated by a British sailor, Robert Walton. His story begins with his domestic life, back in Geneva and the young orphan Elizabeth, who becomes part of the Frankenstein family. Victor has a great interest in Science, which takes him to the university in Ingolstadt. While at the university Frankenstein becomes obsessed with genetics, and creating a perfect human. He makes a creation out of dead tissue, and brings this creation to life. Once he is alive, he is horrified by what is infront of him and he runs from it. Victor suffers a physical and mental breakdown, from which his good friend Henry Clerval nurses him back to good health. The creation has disapeared, and Victor recieves a letter from his Father informing him of his youngest brother, Williams murder. When Victor arrives in Geneva he catches a glimpse of the creation, and he immediatly knew that he was responsible for the murder. A family friend of Victor was falsely accused and found guilty, Victor becomes guilt ridden and seeks respite in the alps.
Excuse any spelling mistakes and what not.
And this is the last paragraph of my summary which I need to write into that somehow, but shorter...
The creation asks Victor one thing; if he could have a friend of the oposite sex, someone who was as ugly and repulsive as himself. Victor reluctantly agrees, he finds it a loathsome task and doesn't fulfill it. The creation who had promised Victor if he didn't make him a friend, he would punish him and he would suffer at the hands of his family, and that he would be there on his wedding night. And on his wedding night, Elizabeth is strangled. Victor devotes his life to the destruction of the monster and eventually dies.
As a younger lad, when called upon to shorten a piece of work, Octavian would first start with the transitional or non essential words....eg...."the first line could be re-written as "Frankenstein is an account of Victor Frankensteins life, and is narrated by a British sailor, Robert Walton"....3 words down.
It's better to get all these words out of the way first as you want to take out as little of the main collaterall as possible. Think of it as a lean piece of muscle....no wastage at all....no fat at all.
In a summary every word possible should count.
Once you've done that you may only have half of the words left to delete.

You need to get out of the habit of doing full explanatory sentences for summaries. Words are too valuable to waste on that sort of sentence. For the purpose of your piece of work things like "This book" are wasted as it's a given that you're refering to the book. Anything that you wirte will be taken in the context of the book.
With only 200 words each one is like gold dust.
There are plenty more that you could strip out.

Yep till Friday, cos we've got work experience next week so she was like its gotta be done by Friday. Its so unfair, cos we only started it the lesson before today.
