Occy decided to have a root through his old CD collection (bit of Spring cleaning don't you know!) and have has been spending some of the afternoon in the sun listening to some jingly jangle early 90s Brit-pop.

He found Sleeper, Elastica and Lush amongst others. It almost felt like those heady days of fancy free fun that Occy used to have as a young lad.

Occy would therefore advise everyone out there to have a look thorugh their old collections and relive their youth again....

....unless you're still in your youth and then Occy advises you to re-live your toddler years again.

"Off the wall" is absolute class....as it "Thriller"....

....in answer to MJs question "Who's bad?"....

....You bad MJ....you bad!

*Disclaimer - Octavians use of the term "Bad" is in agreement with the Jackson Vs the State case of 1987 where the official meaning of the term "bad" was altered so that the new meaning was universally accepted as "good". This was to avoid Jacksons concern that the world would have assumed that the name of the "Bad" album was in fact a review of his own work....i.e.....a terrible album. This was not the case....the album was in fact alright*

The best song of the 80s's was 'What a Feeling'. Love the electric music at the beginning of the song.

I don't know what Occy would make of my music collection as it has a wide diversity from Classical to Heavy Metal including a section devoted to The Blues.Razz

As long as Mr Robert Johnson is in there Occy would be more than happy. Maybe even a bit of John Mayall and a bit of BB letting Lucille wail too.

Blues is great in Ocys book as long as it's not the newer style Blues that he's heard. A bit of earlier dustbowl blues is great like Leadbelly.

Heavy Metal was Occys thing for a while back in the day when Iron Maiden ruled the world but Anthrax and Metallica (Cliff Burton era) ruled the airwaves...."And justice for all"....you bet! MC5 were a great band to pull out of your parents collection as well.

Classical is the root of everythng....it's where it all began so skipping that is like missing out ont he first 10 minutes of a film. Anyone who's really interested in music knows about classical music too.

Ahh jangly Britpop. Lovely.

Are you a fan of Suede, Occy? They're my favourite band of the 90's.

Ahhh...Suede....Mr Anderson and Mr Butler. Occy remembers when they first came out and they were the best thing ever as far as the N.M.E was concerned. "Nitrate" was a great song and is still one of the ones that Occy likes to play when he's got his guitars out.

All the girls Occy knew fancied Brett.

Got any original line up Fleetwood Mac? Not really the ame league but Peter Green was a great Blues guitarist. Nothing like what they became in the 70s and 80s. Totally different band.

I'm more a fan of the original godfathers of Brit Pop such as The Kinks and Small Faces

I wish I could remember when they first came out... but I was only a wee baby back then Frown

Animal Nitrate is sheer brilliance. As is The Drowners, The Next Life, Pantomime Horse, Sleeping Pills and Still Life.

Some of the Anderson/Oaks material is great too. Beautiful Ones, Stay Together, The Wild Ones and Everything Will Flow are all really good tunes.

And Brett Anderson circa 92-96 (before all that heroine junk) was absolutely GORGEOUS. Razz

I've got a Live in 68 featuring Peter Green, but it's a bit like Pink Floyd. Totaly different from when Sid Barrett played with them going from Pschodelic to Prog Rock

....and there is the main gaping whole in Occys collection. As much as Octavian likes to think that his tastes are diverse and vaired, he hasn't got any "Prog rock"

He's never been able to get in to it at all no matter how much he's tried. Occy is one of the few people that's never wanted t buy "Dark side of the Moon"

He's not saying that Prog Rock is bad....he's just saying that he doesn't get it.

Wierd really.

Dark Side of the Moon is a classic but my favourites are The Final Cut, The Wall and Wish You Were Here, but the best place to start is Echos. Throw in a bit of Rick Wakeman, Mike Oldfield, Yes, Early Genisis in the Peter Gabriel days, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull and Hawkwind then it's possible you might have a bit of Prog Rock somewhere in your collection

^ I prefer The Wall to Dark Side Of The Moon, personally.

So yeah...in my early days I thought the Spice Girls were the bees knees...then I moved onto Steps (my first live band!) and I even listened to some of my dad's bands...including Pink Floyd and Deep Purple! ><

From ages 10-12-ish, I adored Busted but then I discovered Avril Lavigne and Evanescence. My life has never been the same since:Ev. lead me onto Nightwish who in turn have offered me the pathway to greater things!

If you want some good prog stuff, perhaps looking at Dream Theater may help. They have maybe a more 'modern' feel to them, but 20-odd years ago when they came out, they were pushing the boundaries of prog rock! I still love them now, although I cannot stand the Petrucci fanbois! They're worse than the Jrock fangirls (if that's possible!)

sorry...said something ab it odd there about Dream Theater....'now'. I've only known them for about 4 years and by 'now' I meant even though I've discovered more bands. Gosh...I'm only 16 >< =D

But yeah...I could go into more detail about my choice of music but some people might get lost. The oldest bands in my collection are Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Dream Theater, X Japan and Katatonia. =)

Sorry for the double post! (see if mods could give us edits...*hint hint*)
