lol, back to what i wanted to talk to you about.

i got my reece a home visit with a specialist next week, very good news.

hes stopped eating in front of others. we all sit down together and have dinner and before reece would eat everything veg, meat ect. then it got to the point where i would have to chase him round as he was on the go all the time. lately he hasnt been eating in front of us and instead throwing a paddy and headbutting the floor over and over. i put it down to him not being hungary.

but i have given dinner in his bedroom as sometimes he doesnt want to come out and he will just keep going back in there. when he eats in his room he clears the plate no mess (i would expect a 2 1/2 year old to have it everywhere). so latley ive been making two plates of dinner for reece keeping one warm in the oven. i try him in the room an he sits down to his dinner and it looks like he gonna eat - then he doesnt and has a paddy.

taking him away from distractions calms him down so often ive taken him to his room and hes ended the paddy. so i gave him the second plate in his room which he ate the lot while i wasnt there.

so now my little boy wont eat in front of others, i just feel like everything is going backwards.

his bedroom is becoming the place where he is most he just goes back in there after about 1 hour down stairs. if you keep him from going there he paddys. it sounds like being around others in the living room is like sensory overload. god the more i read up on autisim the more alarm bells ring

Hmmmmmm..

The thing is, if he's going to eat, even if it is in his room, then you may aswell let him for the time being..
If you fight him, you'll not only make it worse, but he'll also probably revert to not eating at all.
It's hard isn't it??

For instance..My girl will only eat if she is sat in the corner spot of the table.
She would only ever use the purple cup, knife and fork.
She has to go to the toilet first in the morning.
She has to be the first at everything. If her sister gets dressed before her, she has a huge tantrum..
Pathetic to you and I..But to her it's a major biggie..It's the end of the world..

At bathtime earlier, I'd ran out of purple radox and only had pink left..She didn't want to use it. Purely because there was no choice. So I said, either use pink or use none. That was her choice. She chose none, then when the bath had been emptied, she wanted to run another because she'd changed her mind... Roll Eyes

hi for some reason it didnt show your last post - time warp or what.

i do let him eat in his room, i feel like im losing him to his bedroom. its upsetting as although learning more about his condition is like a huge weight being lifted its causing more shit between me and steve, hes willing to accept he might have adhd but not autisim. it like we cant have a proper conversation about it. did you say your girl has ADHD? what was she like as a little one?

Oh my days... When she was about 18mths we knew we had probs with her..
She walked at 10mths, was out of nappies by 22mth, forward with everything except speech. Didn't string sentences until she was 3 and even then they were short lazy sentences.
Paddys like you wouldn't believe. Full on throwing herself and all sorts. She wouls climb up at the front door by the time she was 5 and try to run away.. She figured out how to undo the lock with a broom handle....
Her windows had to have keys locks since she hangs out of them..
As she's got older the tantrums are less frequent, but they are worse when she has them..
The violence is awful. I get kicked, punched, head butted and bitten. She doesn't mean to do it though, she hardly remembers afterward.
She is always up casualty having stiches coz she throws herself off things.
She has no danger sense.
If I walk away from her when she's having a screaming fit, she will turn and run in the opposite direction..
She stabbed a boy in her class in the hand with a pencil coz he called her a cow, she was sent home..
When I lost all my hair to alopecia, a girl called me a bald lesbian. She tried to strangle them with her bag handle..
She has been statemented now..

reece was a real late walker, he hardly ever smiled as a baby, or ever said very much at all. its still babble - his latest is to say oh no over and over. if he plays with something its because it has buttons or to turn the wheels on a toy car or bike.

some of the tantrums sound alike and ADHD is on the autisic spectrum. your girl sounds like steven so much - he knows no sense of danger, hes always hurting himself and as a child jumping off the garage roof stuff like that. i cant let him get in a fight as he would probably kill someone as hes freakishly strong. he loses his temper so easy and doesnt understand stuff in the normal way. he likes knives and at night he will eat and apple with a knife then i will find it stuck in the coffee table - i used to have to get up before dale did and make sure everything was moved. but hes stopped that now - he moves them after he finished. only because i threw out the coffee table and everytime i found a knife in the room on a morning i threw it out in the trash.

at what age did you notice she was different?

We noticed problems arising from 18mths.
She was so different to everyone else kids who were around the same age.
Terrible two's became terrible three's.
We didn't have her diagnosed as adhd till she was 4 and went to school.
She got sent home for swearing and hitting teachers. Picking up chairs and throwing them.. The school wrote a letter for us to give to our HV and 2 months later she was said to have adhd..

Life's a nightmare at times.. But I wouldn't change a single thing about her. She is who she is..

i wouldnt change steve, he drives me crazy. and its like having another child.

reece is having dinner in his room, im no longer trying him in the living room. as i starting to get his paterns of how he likes things in a certain way.

i noticed as a baby he wasnt smiling he was just crabby all the time, he had the worst colic and me and steven never had a spare moment. then around 10 months he really loved cartoons - then i would buy him a teletubby, elmo stuff like that. thinking he will enjoy the toy as he likes to watch it so much. he never bothered - only wanting to play with shape sorters and wheels or anything with buttons. he hated the feel of grass or any thing textured. he want talking much it was all babble. he walked really late. but i thought he grow out of it all, then he hated being in public places like the supermarket where people would try and talk to him - hes always hated the bus.

he will play along side dale and sometimes copy what hes doing if there playing with toy guns but its never interaction with him.
