im sure what will happen is that clark will be human for a short while and disprove any real evidence, or lex's dad will be having one of his weekly visits in the nut hole and forget all about it
Whitney and Jason were both very one-dimensional characters, that only lasted a season as they only served one purpose, i.e. a love interest for Lana so she Clark wouldn't have a clear run at her.
Keeping them in would have meant they'd have turned into Pete Ross characters, occasionally popping up in non-sensical plots just to give them some screen time.
