It has been all over the news that the union representing the writers of television and writers is now officially on strike. This means that as of late last night, writers would NOT be writing until certain issues are sorted out. (For more information on the strike, and the hows and whys of it, visit Variety.com)
Smallville will not be immediately affected by the strike, at least to TV viewers. TV series as a rule are already several episodes ahead on the writing and filming. Additionally, the show has several scripts waiting in the wings that, as far as we know, will still be filmed. We hear they were able to get up to #15 or #16, and that the last one will end on a cliffhanger "just in case." If things are not resolved in adequate time, we MIGHT have a shorter season than usual. The schedule for episodes in early 2008 may also be affected.
This strike affects shows on all networks. Heroes, Lost, 24, Law & Order - writers from ALL shows are striking. When more information becomes available, we will let you know.
The strike will be sorted this week, but - at best - only a few more episodes can be made, as the actors can't work between certain periods of the year.
Strike Update: 5 More Episodes After "Veritas?" The striking writers had meetings yesterday to discuss the terms of their new contract with the studios, and if the WGA members vote to end the strike, a lot of writers could be back to work as early as Wednesday.
But that's not the only good news we have for you! The CW wants five more episodes of Smallville, bringing the total number of Season 7 episodes to 20... just two shy of the usual amount. Now, this is assuming that the strike will be ending and that there will be time to film all of those segments... but things are looking good.
Have read that apart from tom welling the only person that is signed up for an eighth season , should there be one is john glover so that would blow your (and mine over many months) theory out of the water cloud .
I really like smallville but I think that season 7 should be the end, they should tie up all the loose ends and go out with a bang, I think that they would struggle to develope the story any more without starting to encroach on clark moving to metropolis and working at the daily planet teritory, after all it would no longer be focused on Smallville, making the title somewhat redundent.

Agreed !! , but with the strike a suitable ending may not be possible so me thinks a lot of arm twisting is going on behind the scenes to get people to agree to one more season, having said that i do agree with you that it may be a bridge too far and without lex and probably lana you are reliant on chloe and supergirl for plotlines as the lois character is chained by many constraints story wise.
Indeed they could end up relying on a depleted cast, it is part of the superman story that clark and lois end up together, but how far they can take this without smallville ending up like the new adventures is slighty clouded. Also they have been restricted by their own no flights no tights rule, the no tights bit I can cope with, but if they could slaken off the no flights bit even just a bit at the very end then I and suspect many other people on this forum will be very happy.

CW have confirmed episodes 16 to 20 will be made for season seven ,even given them titles. Perhaps they will give lex the send off he deserves after all , probably lana too.
But is John Glover has signed on for another season if so we won't get to see lex kill lionel, and then end up in prison which I think is the way both you and I imagined lex leaving. As for lana who knows, personally I don't know how much further they can take it with another season.

Maybe thye might bring lex back for a wuck 2 to 3 episode cameo to finish of lionel, and go to prison, therefore every thing would be as we thought but I am still confused as to how they are going to get around the "Samll" obstacle of the fact that every one has seen clark with out his glasses, so the disguise is out the window, dispite the fact that smallville has its own mythology etc.
Lex: I know you, you've stolen from me before Bart: I want a lawyer Lex: And I want a ponytail....dissapointment abounds BRILLIANT
Lionel is due to be killed in episode 16/7 i think so unless he is revived as so many have in the past that is three main characters that will be absent for most of season eight.Even if lionel comes back from the dead ( which he will )he has not been a big part of the last two seasons,so will they increase his storyline or will they , as i suspect, revert back to weekly meteor freak bashing on a wholesale scale.Which ever way you look at it, it seems the producers will fall into the ratings trap in other words sacrifice quantity for quality.
