Other programmes have to put more effort in to story telling as they don't have the luxury of having a show based on an already-popular character. Smallville has barely scratched the surface of what could have been an excellent series, but they get away with it time after time because it's based on the young Clark Kent/Superman.
Because it is such an amazing show, but seriously, I thought the idea of a young clark kent would be a real good programme to watch so I decided to check it out and it has not dissapointed (completely). Also, I have also been a fan Superman since childhood.
2. Where did you hear about smallville?
TV adverts, thought it looked alright, watched one episode and been hooked ever since, even managed to get the rest of the family into it.
3. What was you initial attraction to the series?
Brilliant, I really liked the way it was heading from the start,a dn thought it was really inrutiging to haev a series on the teen eyars of a young hero that turns out to become a legend among super heroes.
4. What do you enjoy most about the programme?
The story and its unique take on the life of a such an Iconic Hero.
5. Dp you watch any other sci - fi related series, how do they differ from Smallville.
Not really, To tell the truth it was mostly because I was a fan of superman that got me into watching this and it turned out wuite good, I like the concept of some of these other shows but do not think that any compare top smallville.
I take it that this is for A2 medai studies, this is a really good idea, I am doing media at A2 as well, good luck man.
Lex: I know you, you've stolen from me before Bart: I want a lawyer Lex: And I want a ponytail....dissapointment abounds BRILLIANT
1. Why do you watch smallville? iv'e always liked the superman story from when i was a young child. When i watch smallville i love it and it is cheesy but thats what i like about it lol. Iv'e got all the dvds so far as i don't get much in life but this is one of my pleasures.
2. Where did you hear about smallville?
i watched it on tv when i was channel flicking and just happened to think it looked good then after a few weeks i was hooked, then i wanted to see the programmes i had missed.
3. What was you initial attraction to the series? All the different ways people can be affected by the metors. Clarks progression and power and his relationships also. Lex's charactor become more dark.
4. What do you enjoy most about the programme? I love lex's mansion and i have even recreated it on the sims 2 lol.
5. Dp you watch any other sci - fi related series, how do they differ from Smallville.
1. I really like the story lines, when they are good they are really good, but there have been a couple of stinkers.
2. I saw the adds for season 1 and I have been hooked since then
3. It looked interesting, I really enjoyed the superman films when I was younger.
4.The same as question one and the hot girls
5.I used to watch a lot of stargate, which was very different from smallville. I also watch supernatural. But, my favourite sci-fi type show other than smallville is Heros, which is different in that there is more than one main character with powers.
Like a fat a guy at an all you can eat buffet life got in my way.
1. Why do you watch smallville? = Action, Special Effects, Gripping Drama, Mystery, A few frights - the whole package it excellently blends in a lot of great elements of TV together to form a good show. It does this so well, it makes it easy to ignore the sometimes lame script (Try watching with Subtitles) and sometime cheesiness. But that's only developed now: Season 1 & 2 were amazing.
2. Where did you hear about smallville? = I actually didn't know about it, until I was flicking through the channels, when the Pilot was being aired and I saw Superman: The younger Years. In those days, I loved the Superman Stories so much: The Comics, the Movies, everything... so when I saw the keyword Smallville: Superman the Early Years, I was like YAy! Wow! I had been gutted that Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman had been unplugged in 96 and had been waiting for another Superman fix for years.
3. What was you initial attraction to the series? = It was perfect for me. I really enjoyed the Pilot Episode and the developing Episodes through the Season; the Meteor freaks, the relationship between Clark & Lana; and Chloe. And I also wanted to see how Lex would end up Clark's Enemy. PLus, the Season Finale Cliffhangers were gr8 (Until Season 5).
4. What do you enjoy most about the programme? = I used to love the Action Sequences, but they've been cut very short now. The thing I most enjoy about it, is when a Great Episode comes together, like a Season Finale, and the Amazing Cliffhangers of Previous Seasons (Mostly 1 & 2).
5. Do you watch any other sci - fi related series, how do they differ from Smallville. = Yes - One of the reasons I started watching Heroes was because Smallville's Jeph Loeb was a writer for it, and when Smallville started it was the best thing on TV for a while (Apart from maybe Alias). It's kind of mellowed down, and amazing Shows that express Genius behind the production such as Lost & Heroes have been created. So Smallville's starting to look like Child's Play. I would say they should step up the Game, but I'm feeling that the Series is coming to a Conclusion, and I think that will be explosive enough to recapture Smallville's Previous Elements.
Srry about all the articulate language use - I'm still reeling from an English Language Exam

I read Superhero comics as a kid, saw all the Superman Movies and there's something about the genre that fascinates me.
2. Where did you hear about smallville?
Probably in a tv mag or an on-screen ad.
3. What was you initial attraction to the series?
Good looking cast, some of whom could even act. Interesting twist on the traditional story of Clark's background.
4. What do you enjoy most about the programme?
I prefer the action episodes centred on mostly guys, and the latest series has been much more hard hitting and dramatic, better written, acted and directed. I like the interactions between the various protagonists and the plot twists.
5. Do you watch any other sci - fi related series, how do they differ from Smallville ?
I've watched most sci-fi series since the original Quatermass and Star Trek. Many have dated so it's not easy to make direct comparisons. Smallville isn't studio based which gives it more appeal. The scenery doesn't wobble like in early episodes of Dr Who! Neither is there a lot of silly creeping about in dark places with torches like in X-files. It's sci-fi soap for our time, alluding to current scientific concepts, even if it doesn't always understand the reality behind the science. I like the special effects and high production values and unlike some other sci-fi series, appears to take itself a bit more seriously.
Hello Rob_b23, You kicked off an interesting discussion here. Will we get to see where your research leads? Did you get what you want? I think we should be encouraging more students/researchers to participate in the C4 forums, as it gives us all a good insight into what viewers think to the programmes. watched it from the beginning, saw first episode by 'chance'(but we all know there is no such thing as chance)
clever plot and characters, which had many twists. and plenty of original special effects.
but alas it is turning into 'superman the early years' , which imo was really poor. it should have ended after the first few seasons -on a high. now it will melt away in an ever diluted and disapointing way.
1. i waatch 1 episode then could stop watching it! and went mad on it, also loved anything to do with superman all my life.
2. i heard for the T.V. adverts looked great and it was even better!
3. the attraction to me is that its all about superman when younger, and get to see how he dealt with his powers and with the people around him. and just liek aanything with powers init and this was great!
4. again is with the storys when clark kent was young, which showed us everything about it, and i mosstly like to see clark save the day my using his powers to kick some ass!
5. i dont really watch any others part from reaper, which has nothing to do with smallville but i was also hooked on to that!
