Predictably won by Thriller.

That was never in doubt.

What surprised me were the ones from the 60's & early 70's! Eek

I didn't think that music videos existed until the 80's, or very late 70's at least! Confused

It was a scandal that "Sabotage" by The Beastie Boys was not placed higher than it was. The other thing that I was miffed at was the fact that "Unfinished Sympathy" by Massive Attack wasn't even placed in the top 100 at all. However, The Verve's knock-off version of the video was highly placed. Massive attack's version is by far superior. It is a much rawere and edgier video in my opinion.

You're right, that Massive Attack video is a seminal one. Very surprised that it didn't feature at all. Confused

As a genuine music lover I have come to despise the concept of the 'music video' . . . an oxymoron if ever there was one.

The simple fact is that great music stands up all by itself and doesn't need any visual accompaniment.

The music video is the Trojan horse responsible for the endless stream of dross that fills the gaps between the ring-tone commercials on todays TV 'Music Channels'.

Simple fact .... No music videos on TV = Less crap music = A Jolly Good Thing.

It's a myth, even perpetuated by music reviewers, that music videos began with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. The Beatles' did Paperback Writer, for example, although I haven't seen any others by The Beatles, even though they did feature films. The rise of the music video was probably partly to do with the rise of photographers in the 60s, when they allied themselves to the swinging sixties.

Anything which starts The 100 greatest... is always going to be disapointing, predictable and "mainstream"

Why oh why does Channel 4 insist on having these "100 Greatest" shows?? Who the hell cares what is the best "war film" or "music video"?? I've lost count how many of these shows has been on! Perhaps C4 will next come up with: "The 100 Greatest "100 Greatest tv shows" programmes!! Far too often when they put these shows on, theres too much talking by these so-called celebrities giving their opinions, and not enough footage!! When theres music on - play the whole damn track - not hear what some "comedian" or reality tv contestant has to say on what they think about it!! And who the hell votes for these "lists" anyway?? Theres no such thing as the "Greatest" song, film , comedy moment, etc. Everything is down to ones own personal choice. Just because many may like a particular thing - it doesnt mean to say its everybody elses fav!! If C4 will insist of broadcasting these shows, e.g. Music Albums, dont bother doing a poll, axe all the chit-chat plus all the presenters, and have a show where theres JUST footage and NOTHING else!!
