What happened to Schindlers list? I know it's not meant as a tearjerker, but everyone sobbed! I watched it in class for the first time, and noone could hold back the tears at the end. My greatest weepies are: ET - the first film I ever cried in - i was 6 years old, basically the part in hospital and when ET goes home again Gladiator - When Maximus dies Messege in a Bottle - When Garret dies Pearl Harbour - I think everyone knows where I cried Titanic - when she notices that he's dead and lets him go on the raft *sniff* West Side Story - THE END :'( Charlotte Grey - The whole last scene, especially when she says" There's something i've always wanted to tell you, my name is Charlotte Grey" *sob* Return of the KIng - Where King Theoden dies *big sob* and the second time I cried from start to finish (I am sad, i know, but the rest of the cinema was just as bad as me, i promise) About a boy - oh, the usually sobby Billy Elliot - Whan at last he gets into the Royal School of ballet I am Sam - everything, mostly the end when he's so happy that she got a goal Pretty Woman - end scene Love Story - why didn't anyone round here crie at that??? Anyone who didn't shed at least one tienie tear ist coldhearted!! Cold Mountain - Ok, i agree....I am a saddo, but perleeese!! Who didn't crie at the end?? Fellowship of the Ring - When Boromier dies Save the last dance - when her mum dies at the start Life is Beautiful - wow, how i cried here........
Ok, i know i'm a wuss, but hey, thats just me being wierd! I bet i'm not so bad though! Or, well i hope not!

A daughter, passing herself off as white, disowns her mother and asks her never to look for her again. I 'balled my eyes out'again, at the end of the movie, the mother's funeral, with Mahalia Jackson singing in the choir. The daughter turns up to find out that her mother is dead. I've seen this movie many times and it hasn't failed to leave me in tears.!
I agree that 'Imitation of Life' should have been there. Probably the saddest film I have ever seen. That final scene always has me in floods of tears. It probabaly wasn't in the top 100 because it's little known by younger audiences.
I was also surprised by the omission of 'West Side Story'.
Don't know what's sad about 'Armageddon', apart from it boring me to tears!

Also it's understandable that Andy Peters' departure from L&K was in there..cause *sniff* that was when he went on to destory Top of the Pops *cries*
LOL!
"That's right. I got your number, id boy. Only thing you're thinking about is how long before you can jump on my bones".
I have to agree with Imitation Of Life - I suggested it on this poll back in the summer and was very disappointed not to see it in the top 100!
The top tearjearkers of all time have to be:
1) Imitation of Life 2) Dumbo 3) Schindlers List 4) Dr Greene dying in ER (amongst others including Lucy being murdered) 5) Several episodes of Buffy (when she kills Angel, when her Mum dies, sacrificing herself for Dawn etc) 6) I am Sam ("most other Daddies don't go to the park everyday" - sob!) 7) Beaches 8) Steel Magnolias 9) The Lion King 10) Meet Me in St Louis ("have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" to Margaret O'Brien)
Personally, I hate the format that Channel 4 gives us to "vote" - i.e. they give you a list to pick from, rather than letting us use our own judgment/experience. I find this patronising. It also means that half of these polls end up looking like "100 greatest whatevers ...as voted for by Sun readers"!
I soon stopped paying real attention to it and went & had a bath! I had phoned a friend at the start of it, to let her know it was on and she immediatel got online to check what some of the "choices" were. I mentioned what some of mine would be and she gradually informed me that NONE were in the list!
Thus, in no particular order ...except, perhaps, how much they sprung to mind as making me cry:
Paris, Texas - The "booth" scene is just devastating. "...trailer home?", "...Yes - they lived in a trailer home." Gets me every time ...and I've watched it about 10 times, now!
Ballad Of A Soldier - Seems devoid of emotion at points, but then at the end you realise it's the hero's stoic selflessness that costs him the ultimate price.
The Elephant Man - Actually, this one might have been in there, but I missed it! "Wait... I didn't teach him that!" Poignancy distilled to perfection!
Letter From An Unknown Woman - Described in many reviews as "the greatest tearjerker of all time". But was it in Channel 4's list, even? Nope!
Rouge - gets you suddenly, this one! Still highly recommended, though.
The Unbearable Lightness Of Being - For the dog sequence! I love dogs!
Before Sunrise - Tears of joy at the final, silent sequence - reviewing the scenes of the night's emotional journey.
Actually, there's one that I've yet to see that makes me want to cry, just reading the reviews! It is Alexander Sokurov's "Mother and Son" ( http://www.horschamp.qc.ca/9809/offscreen_reviews/sokurov.html ). I think I'll try to watch that one alone first!
Does anyone else have any thoughts on those mentioned above, or any other "less mainstream" offerings of their own?
Incidentally, I agree with alot of the selections mentioned by others, but I also haven't seen alot of them, sadly. Strangely, I don't get to watch alot of films! :-(
where was the death of princess diana? that was national mourning!!!! there was the song by elton john, there were the news bulletins, there was the funeral! and it wasn't even mentioned!!!

It was a bizarre omission!
Grown men & women who'd never even laid eyes on her, were sobbing hysterically!
There is one movie that was not listed but is available here in the UK. It is a Japanese animation, or anime as it is called, titled "Grave of the Fireflies". The synopsis is; On the final days of World War II, 14-year-old Seita and his four-year-old sister Setsuko are orphaned after their mother is killed during an air-raid by American forces in Kobe, Japan. After having a falling-out with their aunt, they move into an abandoned bomb shelter. With no surviving relatives and their emergency funds and rations depleted, Seita and Setsuko must struggle to survive their hardships as well as those of their country, which is on the losing end of the war. This was made by the same studio that made the 2003 Oscar winner "Spirited Away", Studio Ghibli. and it's based on a true story of the movie writer who though survived had changed the ending to reflect that many did not. This is guaranteed to drain the eye's of tears and should be on your list.
All Kinds of movies for lots of different reasons, happiness and sadness and pity and relief.
King Kong Dr Zhivago The Great Dictator Ice Cold in Alex Schindlers List Hotel Rwanda Invasion of the Body Snatchers (tears of happiness that the Bodysnatchers don't win) It's a Wonderful Life Watership Down The Wicker Man(always feel sad for Edward Woodward because he's a good man) The Omen II (Always feel that Damien wanted to be a normal boy and it shows in this movie) Ivanhoe- Sir Guy of Gisbournes love for Rebecca and Rebeccas love for Ivanhoe The King and I- When Yul Brynner is dying The Elephant Man Little Big Man
Pretty in Pink. It doesn't make me sad but just emmotional. I think that its probably a combination of the Psychadelic Furs song, wanting to be Molly Ringwalds boyfriend and the story.
