You really should add The Cruel Sea to that list and, in the process, ditch Escape To Victory. Sorry, but with Stallone in goal we would have never won anything!! Wink

Of the ones not mentioned, Paths to Glory with Kirk Douglas is a cracking war film - well ahead of its time.

Full Metal Jacket is a good one. Jarhead is good as well.

This si just my opinion, but when watching Jarhead, I felt like I was watching many of the War movies I'd seen before, one shot imparticular, is when they climb up the ropes, it's identical to the same scene in Full Metal Jacket.

I'm torn between The Battle of Algiers and Come and See...

& would also like to mention The Burmese Harp, The Red and the White, Rome Open City, Paisa, Stalingrad, Das Boot, The Deer Hunter, All Quiet on the Western Front (the original), The Big Red One, Patton, Paths of Glory, The Thin Red Line (Malick), A Bridge Too Far, Schindler's List, Salvador, Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom, Ran, Ashes and Diamonds, Closely Observed Trains, Alexander Nevsky, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, From Here to Eternity, Ice Cold in Alex, The Tin Drum, Europa Europa, Casualties of War, Three Kings, M*A*S*H....there are a lot of great war films!!

Come and See is an incredible war film so this is where my vote would go, a film everyone ought to see.

My all time favorite has to be full metal jacket, its an awesome film, there are so many funny parts mixed with serious issues here are a few clips.

I would have to say Apocalypse Now.. just from the point of view of showing the dark side of human nature.. I thought it was very chilling.

For action scenes, I would probably say platoon.
