Hi Everyone! i am new to Channel4 forums but when i found out that you could start a discussion about your favourite film then i had to start one about mine, which is Stand By Me. I am only 17 but Stand By Me has been my favourite film since i was around 5! I remember the first time that i saw it and i was totally overcome with emotion, and still to this day everytime i watch it i cry like its the first time that ive seen it! Everything makes that film, the characters for a start are amazing each one bringing there own special something to the story. The story itself is overwhelming, a very special coming of age story that will stick with me forever, the four friends, Chris, Geordie, Teddy and Vern (Verno!) are fantastic to watch and when they arrive back in Castlerock after there 2day journey the narrator who is actually Geordie grown up (Richard Dreyfuss) explains that "as time went on we saw less and less of Teddy and Vern, that happens sometimes friends come in and out of yuor life like bus boys in a restaurant", and hearing this you realise that its true and you start to think about friends that youve had that you no longer hear of or see.
But my faveourite line in the film is said at the end when older Geordie is typing on the computer and writes, "I never had any friends later on like the ones i had when i was twelve, jesus does anyone?" How true is that?!
And at the end of that scene the best song EVER comes on as the credits go up, Ben E Kings 'Stand By Me', that song fits the film so well, and makes me cry even more! I

I put it on the other day... it's one of those films that doesn't get old easily.

Have you read 'The Body'?

PS - Welcome!

hi crying shaman! you right, Stand By Me will never get old! I have tried everywhere to get hold of The Body but have not had much luck, do you know where to try? The book supposed to be a little bit different from the story as in the book, Chris is the one who grabs the gun at the end, please reply back, thanx!

Ah, I started watching that in English once, I think - is it the one where they...hmm...do they find a dead body or something? And then they go on a journey and run across this big train bridge or something and a train comes [obviously]....

What happens at the end?

It's sad that the River Pheonix guy died so young. And that his Joaquin brother has the weirdest name ever.

I love this film, it's such an 80s classic along with The Lost Boys and The Goonies, etc. I find it sad at the end when Chris walks off and he dissapears when the narrator tells the story about how he got shot and killed when he was an adult. Smile

Thank you for this thread. I forgot how much I loved this film, as I haven't seen it in years, but reading about it is giving me the chills.

Well his real name is even weirder. Joaquin Pheonix was born Leaf Pheonix. Their parents were major hippies apparently. I kinda like Leaf, it's a shame he had to change but I guess it's not very Hollywood. River was a cool enough to get away with.

I may have to treat myself to this film in the new year.

Yes, I love Stand by Me. It really is a terrific film. I love the part when Geordie is coming back from the shop to find the others and Chopper starts chasing him. Or the part when Teddy plays chicken with the train. Or the bit with Lardass... Lol.

Wikipedia says that it was filmed in Brownsville, Oregon, where Castle Rock is, and also other locations in Oregon.

There's so many locations that i'd love to visit from my fave films, this of course being one of them. Smile

Interesting that they've released a book with just the body in it.

I first read this story in Different Seasons by Stephen King, it's a collection of 4 stories. It aso has the original story of Shawshank Redemption in it as well.

I love the film too, Stephen King writes so realistically about the relationships kids have with one another, he also does this well in It.
