Which Nightmare on Elm Street movie do you consider the greatest?
I'm actually going with what's traditionally considered the weakest. That's right A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.
The opening nightmare of Freddy hijacking the school bus and the image of it tottering on a rock pile in a canyon. Iconic... Jeepers Creepers 2 anyone? Surely had an influence?
The whole eighties style and pop culture thing caught by the movie, a favourite era of mine.
The P.E. teacher catching Jessie in a downtown S&M bar while Jessie's in a half dream.
Some of the SFX, classic for this style of movie... Near the ending the ginger girl has to get past two dogs that have faces of babies, they're really are just two rotweilers with masks strapped over their faces.
And, like it should, it ends with a sudden, jump effect.
The first movie is obviously a favourite and the third has a lot going for it but I've just rewatched the 2nd movie and really enjoyed it and for me it sums up the Freddy movies better than any of the others.
The Nightmare on Elm Street Ultimate Collector's Edition DVD boxset, I got it really cheap in St. Alban's HMV the other day. I mean it was really cheap... Like £12.50. And I got House Season 2 dirt cheap as well.
I'll have to go with the original. Genuinely frightening in it's day, and gave new birth to the slasher genre. The third was also very effective and Wes craven's New Nightmare added a fresh twist to the series.
The original is the best, quite simply because it's genuinely the scariest. Freddy becomes almost comical in the later sequels
