The 1957 2CV4 i purchased is now getting more work than originally intended, ready for the better weather ahead. After further inspection it is clear that there was more rust than i had first thought. The car is indeed an extremely low mileage example though and i am indeed only the 3rd owner. I have driven the car quite a bit, the 375cc engine, (originally i thought to be 425cc), going about as well as you'd imagine, not very quick! With 18 bhp it's never going to get anywhere very fast. Hills (up) really affect it, but it will get to 50 mph if the gradient is in it's favour. Around 45 mph is about it on the level. All in all a good purchase which will hopefully attend many meetings this coming spring and summer. The suicide doors, the ripple bonnet, the sound, the speedo-operated wipers, just some of the quirks that make the car fun. Depreciation-proof too, which makes a change nowadays.

Excellent, do you have plans for fotos?
Well we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
am a huge 2cv fan.....indeed, anything aircooled and oddball floats my boat...tucker, tatra, corvair, porsche etc....love em all....just got a 72 beetle in a deal and am now running around freezing half to death with a huge smile on my face
I generally do take photos of my cars, yeah and this one's no exception. It's really quite a mad car but mucho fun in it's own way. Overtaking is limited to cyclists and pedestrians in the main, everything has to be planned in advance!
enjoy getting the best out of its limitations......I'm willing to bet progress isn't too far adrift of everyone else in today's crawler traffic?
One thing I found after driving 'low-powered' cars is that when one returns to something with a definate surplus of power, the gloss had worn off......something 'missing ' ....having that power, and using it simply because one can, didn't hit any buttons anymore.
working hard, stretching one's driving skills, with a vehicle with severe limitations seemed more of a challenge?
enjoy the handling.....warn passengers they might bang their heads when cornering.....learning NOT to back off when everyone else is......???
Hi Queenj, i hope you are keeping well out there in them sticks.
I wouldn't say i dislike the 360 bhp the CSL kicks out though, but you are right, along the lanes and through towns it is surprisingly rarely that i hold other traffic up in the little French device. The handling is quite a bit worse than my 2CV6s for some reason, it shakes and shudders most of the time and the brakes are LOUSY! Have fun and ttfn.
Queenj, it turns out that the nearside 'fore and aft' suspension arm had fractured. I have fitted new suspension to the car and it rides much, much better. Still scary round corners though!
