A number of people on here have multiple cars. Some of which must require garaging/storing during the week for enjoyment at the weekend. (Unless you fill up the streets outside your houses with your exotica)
How, unless you bought a house with a huge garage, do you go about keeping your cars safe from the elements?
My house has 2 parking spaces on the drive- 1 for me and 1 for the wife. I'd love to get something fun for the weekends but I've got nowhere to put it. How do you get round this problem?

Beleive me, Alfisti, Its very difficult!!!!

I have had this problem ever since leaving home a long while ago, because being a car enthusiast is not always practical.

I live in London which makes matters somewhat harder, and have 4 cars, 2 motorcycles and 3 pushbikes!

Looking for apartments to rent is a very difficult procedure!!!!

Double garage and parking for 3 at the front helps. Not enough though sometimes!

How?? Do I contact my local council (please hold) or is there another method?
I'd gladly take rent a garage that was 10mins drive away if it meant I could have something a bit special that didn't like inclement weather.

The cheap council rental garages are cheap for a reason.
They get broken into with gay abandon a lot of the time.
Take a good look at a block some time.

Be wary of car covers if you go down that route. They have a tendency to ruin paint work, well, the cheaper ones anyway.

I don't think I'd want to. Can't see how it protects a car from the elements as well as I'd like

Civilised, biggbn? Alot of towns in Scotland have extremely high crime and mass unemployment. I wouldnt want to leave my car on the street in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Aberdeen, and perhaps even less the smaller, more remote towns! I know youre in Dundee and that is not a particularly high crime area.

But free of charge or not, I would rather park where I do than in alot of parts way up North!

I used to live in Sheffield in a less-than-nice area. First day of ownership of my 2002 Clio; parked up, went indoors, wife said "what's that man doing to our car?"
Cue me running down the road shouting "Oi!"

He was trying to unscrew the aerial!
After that we kept the aerial in the boot.

Just thought I would mention it. I know a few who have had paint work damaged that park their PandJ outside.

I've seen a few cars protected like that. One of my biggest fears for any car parked in the open is theft or damage.
Wouldn't want something like a mint-condition XJS to be damaged by some halfwit for want of a few pounds a month.

just call your local council housing office ( get numbers and addresses of these from your local councils website.

you also have the right to view any garage you're offered before you commit, there are some in nice areas. my garage is round the back of some new houses, and so is overlooked by the residents, plenty coffin dodgers in their gardens digging stuff as well, so pretty safe.

nothing safer than having the garage under your bedroom of your home tho lol.

Although we have a lot of space in the front drive it is all under the shade of trees - so the cars get pollen etc which is a real problem to clean off. Plus we have a terrible pigeon and seagull infestation so am forever having to clean their mess off as well.

glasgow is murder capital of europe....and to be honest, dundee is mental at times....but we have so much space...and murderers dont usually steal cars....id be extremely thankful if you would continue posting this nonsense about scotland, and please tell as many people as you can what a hideous, cold, crime ridden place it is...cos we have got to many of you southerners moving up here as it is...i dont want anymore.....think we should build a wall...hang on...didnt the eyties do that when they actually had an army that was capable of conquering the world......'cept scotland of course.......

The Highlands are awesome. Before we bought the place in Provence we had a small dwelling on Skye, so we regularly saw the north of Scotland. We couldn't afford both so the Skye one was sold.
I love it up there and still go often. In fact we are there next week for some snow boarding---if we can find any snow in the Cairngorms!

Highlands=great roads, few cars, few people. Sports cars love it!

Only the thought of 300 sunny days per year made us switch our holiday home to the Cote d'Azur!
