I picked my 2004 Corolla 1.4vvti T3 up last night, what a fast car! The interior is smart and extremely well built and the sport seats are superb! The steering actually has feeling unlike the previous Yaris i had (awful car).

Got it to work this morning and that is when my problems started. The accident repair manager from over the road came over and noticed 3 problems on my car.
* Rear Bumper on the n/s corner, the paint is "flatter" than the rest of the car
* The rubber grommet that surrounds the rear wiper is missing, allowing water to go straight into the boot!
* The bonnet is not lined up properly
* The Nuts on the radiator have socket marks on them

I have been back to Toyota today and showed them everything.

They just told me the rear bumper was scratched and was buffed by a call out company without paint involved which seemed fair enough.

They couldn't explain why the grommet was missing, i suggested its probably had a new boot fitted, which they quickly tried to assure me it hadn't!

I opened the bonnet and the guy inspected the wings etc and told me that they are all straight and original.

I am just wondering if i should reject the car or get them to fix the problems and compensate me i.e money back? Cheers people!

I have to say I think you may be wise to invest in an independent inspection, with a written report as a powerful weapon against the dealer - if they won't budge. Is this a main Toyota Dealer we're talking about, or just a used car joint?

Do you belong to the AA or RAC?

I don't think the grommet/bumper issues are much to worry about, but if it has been seriously front ended then that is a different matter. Especially if it has been poorly repaired. I give very little to Toyotas, but their bonnets do usually fit.

Good luck and don't hang about - time is of the essence.

Sorry, you said it was Toyota.

In that case they have a reputation to defend.

Good point there mate, they do indeed have a reputation to defend!

I am annoyed to say the least, it was raining when i viewed the motor and the car is at the very top of my price range. I am only young so i guess they think they can have one over me.. how wrong can they be!

They phoned me today and said they will sort the bonnet out, get the bumped buffed up, replace both headlights and fit a grommet.

Doi just let them do the work and leave it at that or should i reject the motor and take my business else where?

Cheers everyone!

You do have rights under the sale of goods act. You would have to prove that "it was not suitable for the purpose for which it was sold".

Can be tricky with a used car. I think you should go hammer and tongs at them - say you will accept an equivalent car (they can find you one) then they retain their sale, but of course, their ropy Corolla. Many big resellers do a "no quibble swap" within short timescales, so I think in the circumstances it's the least they can do.

Have you asked them exactly why the headlights need replacing?

The thing these dealers do not like is a stink, so make sure the showroom is nice and full when you sound off at them.

I'm not sure why you moved to a Corolla, I had one for a while in Oz and it was dreadful. Steering, brakes, in fact everything had no feeling (a bit scary on a coastal road one very late night). However, I don't think it was a 1.4 vvti, so i will give you the benefit of the doubt. It sounds like Toyota are palming you off with a second rate vehicle since you took the Yaris back. I know some poeple who have actually bought the Aygo over one as they say it's a better drive. I was mightliy impressed with one a while ago; french dynamics, japanese build quality.

Is there not another dealer near you, or one preferably with a Lexus dealer attached? At least they should bow down a bit more to you.

Noxide i was meant to be purchasing the D4D but that evening a car crashed through their fence into that car, an Avensis and a New Yaris! I actually find the 1.4vvti faster than the Diesel and in under 3 weeks i have covered 2000 miles with no problems at all!

I have had the problems stated above put right and had a check done on the car, it has not been in an accident which is great news!

All i need to do now is replace my 2 front tyres with Dunlop SP200 Sports and get treat the car to a wash!

How do you feel about the Corolla now that it is being replaced by the Auris?
Will your car be devalued?
