Not since i met a 9-foot snow drift in minus 20 degree temperatures, (Cleveland, Ohio) have i seen such appalling driving conditions as today! The journey back from York was like a battlefield!
Nine overturned lorries and many other vehicles on their sides or backs.
A Kawasaki Z1000 in a ditch.
I really felt for the poor sods involved. Some had died.
BTW Network rail imposed a 50mph speed restriction over all the rail network - perhaps thats something we could carry over to the roads in extreme conditions like we had today - or would that be infringing on peoples rights to kill themselves or others?!
Yes it would be infringing on my rights actually… as was some twonk in a Laguna doing 20mph along a perfectly clear road, and slowing down using brakes each time there was approaching traffic.
It's unfortunate that so many of the cars sold are salb-sided MPVs and SUVs with no cross-wind streamlining whatsoever. It's even more unfortunate that the majority of drivers of these cars don't realise the huge difference between driving a high-sided vehicle and a small family hatchback. The conditions were bad. My car handled it all admirably. Other vehicles seemed to have a lot more of a problem.
