I couldn't be bothered to read everyone's comments 'cos I'm sure tractors, dirty, noisy and slowly were mentioned in various postings!!!
I bought my first diesel nearly a year ago (Fiesta TDCi) and here's some things I've noticed/found out about diesels (forgive me if you've already mentioned them, see above)
- You can hold biting point even on a steep hill without pressing the accelerator at all.
- Setting off in 2nd isn't a problem if you're bone idle and can't be bothered to change down.
- Change up as quickly as possible. I change before 2000 rpm and get into 5th. As long as I'm doing more than 25mph stay in 5th.
And you'll accelerate just as fast as in a petrol - torque you see....
- If in traffic, stay in 1st/2nd and coast along. No need to press the accelerator.
- When going downhill change into 5th. No problems even if your crawling!!!
- Use the black pump at the petrol station. You'd be surprised at the number of people who put unleaded in!!!
- You can pretend to be a minicabber by keeping it in 5th all day (well, maybe not)
I live 4 cars me.....
