the first thing that impresses me believe it or not about this car is its economy and emissions. 38mpg and Band E road tax. the very same values for my vw lupo gti, a car much smaller and lighter (975kgs) and 125bhp vs 200bhp of the sirocco. amazing what technology they have developed to achieve this. or maybe its just a case of being able to cheat the offical testing system better over the years...
....... There's got to be a hundred reasons why i should listen to diesel owners, but right now, i can't think of any.
I feel sorry for Volvo: their C30 preceeded the Scirocco by over 2 years & offers the same thing that the VW will, but you know for a fact that the image obesessed will buy the VW in droves & ignore the excellent Volvo.
I gather the like for like Golf GTI is a fair bit heavier and certainly would not cut through the air as well as a Scirocco so that would help economy - still very surprising it compares to your Lupo!
Are the figures you have seen for the DSG version? These are generally better on the emissions/economy tests - if your Lupo had this the comparison might be more like we expect.
you think wrong -- there's a new lighter dsg7 out now too

I think the DSGs are indeed better on economy. Heavier they may be but the changes are quicker so the engine is wasting less energy between shifts........or something along those lines.

More on-topic - I'm quite taken by the Scirocco, more so if they make an R36 4Motion with the ludicrous wheelarches from the Nurburgring special.
(and apologies for the douuble-post)

I believe an R36 Golf is planned as a run-out special for the end of current Mk V production.

that would surprise me, would have thoght they would launch it as a new phase with the new golf and sirocco, like they have done with the new r36 passat.

though having said that i just checked the passat is not a new model but part of the 05 range. so it fits the pattern if they do it for the golf run out, they are leaving it a bit late though..
