This used to be a regular car security feature in the late 80's - right up there with the krook-lok! Can't remember the last time I saw a car with either on.
I suppose the etching is not the type of thing that would deter a joyrider who wants to take the car for a spin and crash/kerb/burn it.

Never seen the point of window etching. I'd have thought a car thief would be deterred by window etchings only if the likely return available to him in selling it on is less than the cost of replacing or re-etching the glass ... which would have to make the car worth less than a grand or so and therefore not worth stealing in the first place. About as much use as writing your name on your money.
