Isn't it about time you contacted the Guiness Book of Records?! Most cars owned in a lifetime...

Red Face

Good choice of motors BTW!

On the subject of tyres, what would be a good recommendation for a set of quiet 155/13s. The present ones sound like i'm running on cast iron. The car is an AX-yeah- I know-change the car and keep the tyres.

The AX (and all 80/90,s citroens) have 'odd sized tyres' (maybe metric?). I put 2 new Uniroyals on the front of mine and they seemed quite good.

The Metros had metric tyres as well - cheap car, cheap to run ..... until you had to buy tyres!

SAAB 900 as well....its called 'bird flu'......

try here

http://www.tyresdirectuk.co.uk/or these?

although remoulds, they are the best...and are certainly going to be cheap....delivered to your door, very fast service...and probably the speed ratings will be well within your needs...just get a local tyre flitter to fit 'n balance.....very sticky tyres...better bet than 2nd hand tyres,,,with unknown history?

I tried that trick once....only to get the car home (it was dark) to find the previous owner, whilst fitting 4 brand new tyres, had used the nearest size available in 'imperial'!!!!!!!!which I could have done easily!

if metric tyres, does the speedo read more accurately if calibrated in kilometers?

is it very hard to get the car to 'inch' forwards?

does it tend to steer over to the right?

Could someone answer a question - probably QJ or biggbn - why are remoulds not as good as new tyres? Does something happen to the rubber when re-melted? What if say all Pirelli tyres were used to make 'Pirelli' remoulds - would this be better?

Just wondering......

It's been answered a good few time before, but here goes.

Remould tyres are actualy tested to a higher standard than new tyres. They only use a tiny percentace of the tyres, they are checked at each stage of the process.

They don't last as long as they use quite a soft compound (can be a good thing).

I'd much rather be driving around on a set of Colways than a 'premium' brand 2nd hand, part worn.

If you want to see how good remoulds are, check out the tyres on the rally cars at a club (or even national level) event. Even the Porsche 924 championship uses Colways as their control tyre in circuit racing.

You are quite limited to size and speed rating as they are limited to how many donor tyres there are about.

..yup would agree totally with alfisti..nowt wrong wi decent remoulds..colway is a leader in this field supplying many motorsport enthusiasts with budget performance tyres.....just got my 'new' secondhand tyres onto my jag and christ what a difference..it drives like the car it always should have been..the magic carpet ride has been restored..so i'm back in love with it!!

I used to run my Delta on remoulds by another company (cannot remember their name, I heard they went bust). They used to do a Pirelli P7 Corsa copy (almost a groved slick), super-soft compound - the best tyres I've ever had. They only lasted 3 months on the front, but were something daft like £15 fitted and my friendly tyre fitter used to keep two in stock for me !

I had a set of FIAT steel wheels with Colway M&S tyres (the ones with the reinforced sidewalls) off a rally car for the winter.
