Daimler Double Six, Vanden Plas, 5.3 V12, 1974, 280,000 miles, with full Jaguar service history, every option inc. high-quality leather interior, decent stereo system, real wood dash, high mileage, but runs very well. Four months MOT/no tax. It went for a mere £1,100. It seems a lot of car for the money, no?
Bamford, my first car was an XJ6 4.2 series 3, then I bought an Sovereign V12 (mechanically identical to the Double-Six but Jaguar specification) and then an XJ-S V12.
Wish I had never sold any of them, they were all beautiful cars.
How about a 1974 immaculate XJ6-C 4.2 2-door in red with a black roof? Neighbour is selling one.
I have still got my white XJ12-C 5.3 (1977) which is still in need of total restoration.... one day maybe i will get round to it.
It's bordering on the criminal. But what a buy for someone and what a car for a grand!
The best Jaguar i had was a 1974 E Type V12 Coupe. The purists will tell you that it is cheaper than any other E Type, because it is least desirable, but isn't that just the best thing? That the (lack of) 'desirability' thing equals a great car for low-ish money. It was the best E Type anyway, because unlike the early ones it actually had brakes and suspension of sorts, plus of course the magical V12 lump.
