I'd say an ugly moron could spill white spirit over their seats just as well as a pretty one. Razz

QJ white spirit vapourises are is it alcohol based, as we both know! Just the same as brake cleaner.

Yes thank you Panther, I did reach for the edit button within 10 seconds of posting - but you know what this forum is like!

A) Just what constitutes that cr@p that always smears up a windscreen? Do the grime goblins climb in thru the airvents at night just to spray it on?

B) Why does it always appear exactly 2 weeks after you've cleaned it?

Aircon stops the build up of that grime inside the windscreen.

It's a mix of all the stuff you breath out including water vapour and perspire sticking to the inside of the windscreen (via condensation as the outside of the windscreen will be cooler than the inside). Some of it will be tiny dead skin flakes that get disturbed as you move around and then stick to the inside of the windscreen. If you have your windows open then dust, pollen and all the other crap, including bacteria, from the outside will find its way onto the inside of your windscreen.

The millions upon millions of bacteria then have a nice, moist place to multiply with lots of nourishment. Yummy!

As a window cleaner, I used a thin solution of washing up liquid in water. Cleared most things.
It's not the cleaning solution that's really important, it's the polishing cloth. Get some scrim if you can. And then keep the glass cleaned regularly.
These days I keep microfiber cloth in the car (Walmart $1.39) which is also very good for spectacles.
RainX works brilliant on the outside of the windshield.

How many cars do you see that have opaque glass when pointed into the sun? Scary!

Well we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

is there anything on the market that is really effective, for instant use, whilst driving, etc, that gets rid of the greasy, sticky aftermath of condensation on screens?
especially when heading into low winter sun?

windolene doesn't work well....

remember those sunglasses that used to pick up the zoning marks on windscreens?

RainX antimist, stops the misting in the first place. And I don't work for them. Only draw back is a regular clean and application for the inside stuff (they do the outside as well).

I have another problem with modern(ie, post WW2) windscreens....because of their acute angle, and the depth of dashboard tops, I actually have a problem thoroughly polishing inside a screen, unless I stand on my head!

due to old accidnt damage, old age, decrepidity, and an unwillingness to stand on my head whilst driving, I can't get decent articulation in my wrists to polish backwards....

anybody else have this problem, or do I qualify for a 'disabled' sticker?

Toothpaste mixed with water, allowed to dry and then polished off works a treat for stopping the screen misting up - seriously, I thought it was a wind up too.

Old rallying Red Indian trick, makes the inside of the car smell nice too.

If people are finding that their windscreens are steaming up, then why not turn on the fan and set it to the window setting?

That will stop it misting up but it's also the main reason the inside of the screen gets so dirty.

The air that gets sucked in from outside is full of dirt/oil/exhaust fume particles and you are directing it straight onto the windscreen.

the problem truly rears its ugly head when driving into low winter sunshine....the windscreen seems smeared in a greasy layer.

this thread really has little to do with actual 'demisting'..which is another problem entirely.

perhaps once one drives into the world outside streetlights one might discover the problem?

has soxcars noticed any dust appearing mysteriously on the dashboard?

this all comes from the blowers...regardless of pollen filters.
