What cars make you feel special (as a passenger or a driver)? I know I had the 'paper bag' thread some time ago so this is the opposite.

Give reasons if possible.

For me, predictably, it's a Merc as a passenger. There is just something about sitting in a Merc and peering at the 3-pointed star through the windscreen. There's the aura of quality and superlative engineering. It all goes to make the experience very special.

As for driving, it's got to be a Porsche. You need a thick skin to drive a Porsche. There are so many other drivers out there who have a go at you for no reason whatsoever. Nobody gives you way. Boy racers and van drivers (!) bait you for a race at every opportunity. The fuzz take an extra keen interest in you. But all of that pales into insignificance when you hear the sound of the flat-6 engine singing behind your ears. The whole experience from walking out to the car, starting the engine and driving away is truly memorable.

Others worth a mention: Lotus Exige (once you have managed to contort your body enough to get in!).

I've not had that problem driving a Porsche, I admit..not that I've done that very often....recently!

merc to me means taxi, no more!

just my experience of them that's all.

special?

a 50's Bentley?

a Bristol?

a Morgan?

and I suspect, a Dodge Viper?

Evo 8 FQ 400. Safe in the knowledge that you could beat just about everything else on the road if you wanted too, and able to drive hard in the wet. Exclusivity, too.

NSX Type R would be my second choice.

RS4 my 3rd. In order of performance and rarity.

Fortunately i get to drive some incredible cars, so have become perhaps a little bit complacent of late, therefore it takes a particular car to really make me, a 30 year old slightly fat jewish bloke, feel special.

I can think of 2.

Elton Johns Maserati Quattroporte

Bentley Arnage T Red Label.

Both were magnificent. What a sense of occasion. Not sure id own either. Oh go on, yes I would.

I'm easily pleased, me... I only ever special driving something big & ugly, doesn't matter how new or posh it is...

Mercedes Sprinter van Red Face

Dad's 1986 Vauxhall Carlton 2.2 CDi Red Face Bear in mind I drove the car on a few occasions between the age of 17-19. I just didn't get the same buzz in his Astra 1.4 California or either of his Renault Scenics.

Sister's ex-partner's 1986 VW Jetta GTi - whoosh!! Eek

Fancy a Lamborghini LM 002? That might be the car for you.

Nah, for personal transport I prefer my a$$ to be close to the ground in a low - slung "executive" car! Cool
