Well, the much-loved XKR has been sold and i have agreed to buy, for £44K, a 16,000 mile, BMW M5 V10, in silver. It's a 55-plate car.
I test drove it this morning and it was exactly as i remembered from test drives in the past in the M5.
Nice. Smile

The M5 would be better with a twin-clutch 'box, but otherwise it's faultless as a super saloon.
Looks a bit plain-Jane, but i guess it's a bit of a 'sleeper'.

You can get a normal manual put in the M5 now, standard gear stick and all.

I could have had a manual conversion for the Jag, but at £10K, forget it!

Nice car. Hopefully in 3 years time i'll be able to afford one but it will have to be an estate. I think these supercar munchers really look well as estates.

It was an old Ford 1.6 engine, twin carbs.

Nice. What year was it?

That would be the sort of setup I'd want, 1600, twin carbs, nice exhaust... Class.

Circa 1990, the car. The engine was from about 1980, Si.
It had 98 bhp at the wheels, IIRC, but weighed about 550 kgs, so was probably similar to the fastest 2008 hot hatches in performance.

That was a bit sudden was it not? Thought the XKR was perfect?

Hope the M5 has a long MOT Wink

Strange, how our M5-owning fella, with the early MOT, has vanished, aye.
Although, he did admit later, that his car was an older E39 and that it was his brother's.

The Jag? Of course, it's a fantastic car, that will never change. They are one of the best Grand Tourers you will find and even the automatic transmission/heavy car-hating Noxide said that he enjoyed our drive out in it.

The M5 was simply the right price, considering the £12K of spec it has.

I suspect that Noxide will actually prefer the much lighter M3 CSL i had, which he and a mate of his went for a blast in last year, though.

The downside to the M5 is it's weight. 1830 kgs. Which, combined with relatively little power below 5,000 rpm, means you have to 'go for it' more than with some cars.

It's fantastic, as you rev it up and beyond 8000 rpm though. Big Grin
507 bhp won't ever be dull!

Nice one Bamford, I'm dead jealous, I've got an e60 525dSE, which goes well enough, but the V10 must be spectacular. If I ever see you out and about promise not to laugh at my alloys (16 inch). They look like the castors on a sofa compared to the 20inch rims on an M5.

Enjoy.

Nice purchase.

Personally I've never been that taken with the M5. It's a bit too anonymous for my liking.

Any reason why you sold the XKR? Or did you just fancy a chnage
