I freely admit, that i have always thought that the M5 looks too much like a 520D, for the money it costs.
However, it is a great 'sleeper', as many people really don't expect it to be as fast as it is.
It is far from perfect, actually.
I cannot stand I-DRIVE, it has a highly-tuned engine, which can feel gutless, at times and the gearchange is far from ideal, when you are driving in a relaxed manner.
But you forgive all of that, once you get to sample over 500 bhp of V10!
Oh, i sold the Jag, which annoyingly has fallen through, leaving me in the mire a little, because i have had my fun with it and want a change.
I have had 18 cars in the past 3 years, so rarely keep anything long, in fairness.

OK, the BMW is magnificent & the engine is one of the automotive greats, but the XKR is a thing of beauty.

I like the M5, but one could pass you in the street & if it had been debadged, you'd be hard pressed to tell it was something special.

The XKR on the other hand is beaufiful to behold & still looks the business over ten years after the XK8 touched down.

GTR will be more expensive.

How does the M5 compare to the 535d you had?

I'd be interested to know the difference between the M5 V10 engine and the supercharged XKR engine in terms of how the power is delivered in each one and also which has the quieter ride.

Does the M5 have those terrible run flats?? Coz if it does I'm sure the ride'll be terrible.

He has an M5 which if driving fast will cover the 160 miles in ~ 1 hour of fun.

The M5 is a different beast altogether.
The 535d made it's progress from huge torque and early gearchanges, this from low gearing and high revs.

The Jag has the quieter ride but not a better ride hardly, due to the 20" wheels and 30-series tyres.

This has Pirellis which are non run-flat.

Very nice car, I would be happy with the fact people could not tell the difference between the M5 and the 535D, sleepers are a big favorite of mine.
