Does anyone know of any sites to source a superchip for a E30 1.8 is M42/40 engine?. I have found one site that only gives an additional 8 Bhp,which surely cannot be all you can gain for this motor. It has an induction kit on it just now and still needs a tune after replacing the head gasket. Any help would be appreciated. Smile

if you google "performance bmw forum" I'm sure you'll will find a good site.

Worth finding a specific bmw site.

There are some mad mods you can do to e30's - but most would involve changing the engine tbh! Roll Eyes

For the money you'd spend you'd probably be better spending the money to upgrade the engine to a 6 cyliner engine - you could probably do it for less than the cost of chipping it! You can even slip the 525 24v engine (a 2.7l engine) very easily, which would kill a 325, and give an e30 m3 a good run for it's money! Smile

I miss my e30....

I help moderate a BMW forum but was once suspended for 2 weeks for mentioning it here.
It's there if you look for it and is hardly competition to C4, as C4 covers every make and that other one is specialist.

Why on earth would any one bother trying to mod a 318?

Two 330ci's and a standard 535d say that a 318i would have to have a hell of a lot more of a Superchip to stand any chance, Ian.

If it's still standard, I will give him a run.

I still think you underestimate my car Ian, it will be a lot quicker soon with the projected 160bhp! You may be surprised in time. Smile

No, i know your car is very fast Oli, i could tell that when we were out in my car and your car was in John's hands. It is very quick, for certain and should be better still with the new parts.

But i just say, wait and see and put it up against my mate's 535d estate.
That car recently did a GPS 174 mph and the acceleration, as my saloon was, above about 40 mph is awesome. Above 80 mph it really goes, when many cars have tailed off.

OK, yes it is remapped, he has 335 bhp and 510 lbs-ft.

The other thing to remember Oli, is that the 535d has a close ratio gearbox, second to fifth, (with 6th a high cruising/economy ratio.)

Once the car is in second cog and the car is rolling well, a remapped one is immensely quick, helped by gear changes in automatic-sport mode which take place in a tenth of a second.

Fair enough, I will loose out to a remapped one, but I am willing to give it a run for comparisons sake. 160bhp will make things more interesting. Would expect to stay near until 100mph or so.

Good stuff mate.
If you do get the 160 bhp you are after, a lot of modern hot hatches are gonna get disappointed!

Well it is the M42 16 valve engine with 140 Bhp
At the starting point so improving a good engine is worthwhile IMO to make it even better.
This is a friends car and he seems to want to spend his money on a chip or re map it if possibly not sure if it is too old do this?

All in all it would be best to leave the thing standard mate. I asked on the Beemer forum and that was the general view.

Regarding the Westy, get the project moving mate!
I have just put another 50 miles on mine and it is the most banzai machine i have ever driven!

I will let my mate know I think he will come to the same conclusion to leave it. Thanks for the feed back Bamford and asking your mates for their thoughts Wink
On the Westfield front, that is dead and buried sold all the parts I had collected, for the said project. Might buy someones half finished project from them, you know who you are they are everywhere and I am one Big Grin
