I wonder whether certain colours suit design features of a car. If you have a car with the design that looks like the love child of a Leyland Routemaster bus and a Renault Twingo then perhaps silver is best colour to choose so you blend anonymously into the background. Seriously though I think silver rarely suits Jaguars perhaps because their design?

Some cars are definitely born to wear particular colours. The obvious example is Ferrari I suppose, but I'm not sure if the speciific paintwork, er... works, because of the design of the car itself, or because it's lucky enough to have a tradition to reinforce. Just a thought!

Sounds like you're referring to the Fiat Multipla there Sunsurfer! I think that a brave design such as the Multipla should be painted in a suitably bright colour. It should also be metallic to emphasise the more grown-up element of the vehicle. For this reason they look best in that metallic gold or dark orange colour. Yellow is a very ostentatious colour and is often chosen by people that really want their car to stand out. Unfortunately it is usually applied to totally undeserving cars that have absolutely nothing remotely interesting about them. How many times have you seen a bright yellow car approaching and assumed it must be something special, only to discover it was a little Kia or something? Ferraris look good in red of course, as Sweetmoose points out. However I would qualify this by saying that only the mid engined (current) cars suit red. The last front engined Ferrari to look good in red was the 365GTB/4 Daytona. So now you know.

I agree fully, we had a 1st Gen Multipla in dark blue (bought it off the forecourt) but burnt orange looked best. Interestingly here in Germany yellow denotes a very special or special edition car. Fiat sports cars look great in yellow too. Avro in Bruggen

You have a yellow car that looks like a Pineapple? Are you the man from Del Monte?
