VW Golf .... on the basis that VW did exactly that. Took a Golf, dumped a blown W12 in the boot and bingo, a 600hp hot hatch.

Rear? Gotta be the 130i eh? haha
one of the worst handlers though, if the roadtestes are to be believed...
as a base, focus st must be hard to beat, superb handling, extremely tuneable, proven straight five motor and there is a ford dealer on every corner....so just to be contrary...volvo c30 for me...
Toyota Aygo/citroen c1/peugeot 107, everthing else suggested is a bit on the lardy side by comparison. You wouldn't even need a massive engine seeing as a sub 1 litre 3 cylinder propels it along just fine.

yeah im surprised none of the triumverate has released a sporty version, even one with a blown 1 litre triple would be a hoot....im not gonna debate this all day..again..but i genuinely believe that you can have as much, if not more, fun in something like this, a sportka, panda 100 or the like as you can in the big bangers....
no fwd hatch can worry a sports car. its not possible. unless your talking the non driving element of straight line speed. so it it would have to be rwd or 4wd for starters.
....... There's got to be a hundred reasons why i should listen to diesel owners, but right now, i can't think of any.

Having looked at them, and the C2, I'd suggest the latter would be better - just that little more room all round (including under the bonnet) for those little extras...

Why does it have to be the fastest out there? If its just for fun then you can have just as much fun from a small FWD car as from RWD or AWD - trouble with fixations is that you can miss out on a lot of fun.....
agreed, could never figure that one out, but its generally been slated..cant get its power down and aint to much cop in the twisties...it is however a great q car, very understated and seriously quick...

focus st, new golf gti, old integra type r, prev. gen civic type r, fwd elan...all are serious croos country blasters and would worry most 'sportscars'...
I was reading in an Aussie magazine about the 3 MPS, and with traction control off, could do 0-62 in 6.9seconds... its got to be pretty loose with that much through the front wheels.
I dare say the Focus ST would be quicker in real life 90% of the time, and significantly so round the twisties!

Hi, hmm interesting, id love to se a blown version of this in an elise "sub" S.
66kg engine, the worlds lightest. I have one at work soon, as we hope to use it as a project engine for Paris in September which will be ace.
Having said that, in a way not having sporty version is kind of cool as well. They are pretty chuckable cars in their own right, i really love 'em!! sub 900kg i believe or something. Ive only driven hire cars, but i reckon with a set of chunky tyres, lowered abit, exhaust and air filter combo, it could be really great to own.
