After reading the posts from Speedy Steve and having spoken to several bike tuning shops, i this week had the Kwacker 1400 raised to 303 bhp. Arguably, (people do have different thoughts on this), that's the most power without removing the 'streetability' of the bike. I don't want to go to wheelie bar and drag slick, etc. so this is where the tuning ends! (No Steve, i DON'T want 500 bhp!!! )
Hi Lancer. The bike is purely a sunny day, fun machine, although the weather has ensured that not much riding has been possible of late. The gearbox should be ok, the only changes we have made is an aftermarket clutch, (complete) and raised overall gearing. (The internal ratios are standard, which means that the downside is a very tall first gear. It will do 100+ mph in first gear now.) The bike isn't easy to use in first gear, when it comes on boost, but if you ride the torque and change up early, you can make good progress without ever revving it high. My favourite way is to short shift into second at about 50 mph, then crack the right grip. It simply rockets at the horizon and makes my mate's GSXR1000 look like a moped with dodgy fuel. I am hoping that Noxide will get to see it later this month and Palmy in August.
lancer and bamford. are you saying anyone could actually use that sort of power in a bike on the road? how would it compare to the fastest cars like the caparo or veyron?
I dunno how fast Lancer rides but yeah, there's occasional places you can use it, plus i like to go to Santa Pod and Bruntingthorpe, etc. where you can really go for it and have some fun. 0-150 in about 8.5 and 0-100 in about 4.5? Cars? Are you serious? There is no road car which will see where this bike went, south of about 200 mph. Unless you know of one Chaz.
You're probably still a lot quicker than all the hot hatch drivers on your Thundercat. I saw a Thundercat in Monaco last week, it was from Durham. Long ride!

I was in Monaco on my Thundercat in early June funnily enough. I toured through France, Switzerland and Italy as part of a group of 7 bikes. R1 x 2, RSV Mille x2, Fireblade a ZX9R and my Thundercat. 2500 miles of pure biking joy. I have posted a review and pictures on some of the bike related websites.
It's bordering on the terrifying at times, Si. Especially if it comes on boost and the tarmac's not too even! There's a way to ride this machine and cynics have even said that the stock bike is a better bet for the road. Which i will reluctantly admit is an argument which does hold water. But nothing and i mean nothing, can prepare you for the HUGE jet-like shove, when you are between 6 and 9 thousand revs on this thing. It will rev to 10 happily but within those 3 thousand rpm it just throws itself at the horizon. Like i said a 2007 GSXR1000 seems lame next to it.
If you slot sixth at say 40mph, and ease on the throttle, does it have a massive ever increasing wave of torque? Or does it really need to be revved out now?
I'd imagine anything (including a Veyron!) would look pretty pathetic next to it!
What sort of quarter mile time would it run do you think?
It's had the overall gearing raised quite a bit, so 40 mph is too low for top gear really. If you bear in mind that it will do 105 mph in first gear at the rev limiter, top isn't really happy below about 80 mph. It isn't rev-happy by bike standards but will rev to the 10,500 rpm limiter if need be. The best power is between 6K rpm and 9k rpm, but from 3k rpm decent thrust is there. 303 bhp and 213 kgs would make even a Veyron seem slow Si, you are right. Ballpark figures would be;
0--60 in 2.2 0-100 in 4.4 0-150 in 8.0 (8.5 @ 160 mph. SS Quarter).
the caparo does do those straight line acceleration times. i think on most roads it would out accelerate the bike. ally uo need is a bit of dust a few uneven sections and the bike will loose traction, but the caparo has more than one big wheel for traction. there is also another contender, the new 455bhp radical sr8LM.
....... There's got to be a hundred reasons why i should listen to diesel owners, but right now, i can't think of any.
