Followed a heavily modified VW Beetle yesterday with very large exposed rear wheels and very small exposed front wheels. Nearest visual picture of this is a 'funny car' at Santa Pod. I always thought that mudguards were mandatory on all wheels? Is there a loophole here or was it just illegal?
As far as I knew the tyre sidewall is not allowed to be outside the body (if that makes sense!), hence the need for big wing extension panels if they put wide tyres on their car... Having raced in open wheeled cars where tyres can touch each other I can understand why we have this rule for raod cars!
wheel or tyres can not be protruding visibly from the body work or its illegal. mudguards i'm guessing your using as a term for bodywork for this particular style of vehicle, as prevention of mud splattering is not a MOT requirement. i think it is on HGV though. there is a truly awful fashion for wide wheels with stretched tyres on them in some car "scenes" aswell as being unsafe its illegal in terms of tyre fitment and with the wheel protruding the bodywork even if the tyre sidewall isnt.
....... There's got to be a hundred reasons why i should listen to diesel owners, but right now, i can't think of any.
