After helping my mate with his BMW 1.8is recently it has rekindled my love for this model looked all over E-Bay and for local deals for a cheap motor to play around with.
Well I could not believe my luck and managed to pick up a 2liter-touring model for only £50.00 not too bad nick either.
Ok the bonnet blew open in the high winds recently and is screwed but I am sure it will fly again, the car not the bonnet. I am looking for the M tech touring body pack for it, already have replica M tech wheels will keep it simple lowered springs and updated shocks. Might even give it a respray
Unfortunally when I seem to show a car any kind of love it usually shows me some grief in return never talk about money in front of your motor It knows when you are flush!!!
What is your cheapest car that you have bought and did it survive more than a week? Wink

Still on going with this one replaced the fuel pipes and have gone away from the idea of M- Tech body kit just colour codeing the existing side skirts only replacing the front under skirt and I have a chance of M tech electric mirrors I have been quoted for respray and at £1000 think I will do the bear minumum for now.
Is that an average price of respray? after being out of the trade for a while I have lost all my contacts.

I'd avoid spending too much on this car, E30's always need everything replaced. Will just be an endless spend.

That's the idea keep it cheap the respray is a no go until the holidays are over. There is a good Scrapyard near by with plenty of juicy bits to choose from I don't mind using scrapyard bits for the older cars, it's very cost effective when on a tight budget.
Afterall it is a project car. Smile

This project grew some legs and after the initial buy of £50 spent £250 getting through the Mot. The scrap yard has been hit hard for trims and bits and pieces and my local BMW dealer has had some trade as well, the car is taking shape and it is looking good. The whole front suspension has been uprated with new gas shocks and lowered springs new strut tops and all the front bushes the front brakes have been replaced as well as the back plates which had rusted to nothing. I also fitted a new cam belt which did not have a lot of life left in it.
Still on going with the project and Quite enjoying working on it for an old car every bolt has come out without shearing.
Which is a far cry for many new cars when I was in the trade namely French cars you would look at a bolt and it would break.
Later Wink

Torrycoo, nice work on the project!!

Its something I have thought about doing many times myself, and some day hope to take on!

Would be dead keen to see photos, either now or later on, of the Beamer? Big Grin

The E30 touring and coupe are among my all-time faves. Would love a fully restored, gunmetal grey 325 coupe or Oak Green tourer.

Lovely cars. An example of a manufacturer getting it "just right".

Aye this project was the cheaper option for me I had considered a mark 1 escort 1300 with mini lites but finding one proved costly so the beammer was suprisingly the cheaper option.
I was looking for the 325 touring or 325/323 saloon but this car came along and put an end to all my looking. I will try and post some pictures when finished still need to fix the paintwork and some brakework at the rear.
If you have space to carry out such a restoration Si_NZ go for it it can be time consuming and quite enjoyable at times in between the colourful metaphors that come out from time to time from under the beast!!!!! Wink Disappointed

Thanks! I know what you mean, I built up a '83 DX Corolla when I was 16, with an engine transplant (from 1300 to 1600 20v), full respray etc etc and was well worth the effort/time/money.

I can picture in my head how well the Beamer could come out...! Big Grin

Great work on the project torry...have you thought about any performance ideas for the car yet or are you keeping the original engine and just updating the handling?

Well that's the car away for paint now
Yoda the engine is sound at the moment and It would be a shame not to use the unit just now. If it breaks I will put in a 2.5 in, but not for now might fit an induction kit though Cool

I know I said I would wait for the end of the holidays. Disappointed
After all the swearing and blood I thought just go for it and when I get back from my hols I will hopfully have a very shiny red car waiting for me. I am so excited I can't wait will post some pics when have totaly re fitted all the trims.
Later Wink
