Two cars have presented themselves, well almost themselves, which i quite fancy, to sell on. The first and closest to me, geographically, is a 1972 Singer Chamois, in quite extraordinarily good condition for it's age. It's had a few owners, (7), but all seem to have been sympathetic to it, as it's in lovely shape. The second is a 1982 Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas. It's got 155,000 miles on it but all those have been travelled by just 3 owners. It's in blue and has no rust, although needs a good valet and paint polish, etc. They are both very cheap.
ah, but, imagine the actual miles the pistons themselves have covered....up and down and up and down for 155k road miles.....these are the sorts of things that keep my mind ticking over....
strangley, the thing to watch with both the cars you have mentioned is rust and overheating....im assuming the chamois is the imp derivative..??..great wee cars, superb handling but plagued by unreliability usually caused by overheating and head gasket problems.....and they are rusty bu**ers..so watch out...
and the series 3 xj6/12 is my all time favourite saloon car..elegance personified...but again, they rot..everywhere..usually sound enough underneath unless they have been really abused, but front scuttle beneath windscreen and rear panel beneath rear screen, wings around the headlights, bottom rear 3/4 of the front wings...all can go..badly...also, unless the v12 has been scrupulously maintained, they can be complete pigs and are prone to overheating due to coolant never been changed....interior wise, watch the headlining on these old jags too..they are as bad as old rangeys and saabs for drooping...
...id stay away from a series 3 unless it was in very good condition.....i owned a shabby 4.2 which still drove beautifully, but made me feel like a bit of a wideboy pretender, then i owned a gorgeous '85 4.2 sovereign with one previous owner, a fsh and it was a dream..one of the cars i really really regret letting go....
pics would be good..i do like an old car as you know....my favourite imp derivative was the sumbeam stiletto, but the chamois has some rarity cache of its own......and im a sucker for an old jag.....any old jag...
