We gotta do something.
I average 8,000 road miles per year now, where for decades it was nearer 25,000 miles, occasionally 50,000.

MY R400 SUPERLIGHT NOW HAS 241 BHP!

electric buses are all very well, but they still run on a power supply that is ultimately produced thru unsustainable means, unless the electricity is produced trhru much maligned nuclear power stations...THE way forward for electricity supply....better to make buses run on recycled vegoil...and the town centres would smell SO much better too..

I think the statistics show that the Newcastle leccy buses are still way better for the climate overall than diesel ones bggbn.

What a ridiculous debate Palmy?

How can you compare a 5 litre saloon with one driver ad one passenger to a bus carrying 30 people?

Furthermore, your rant on prices is even more ridiculous. If you pay pay Oyster (as the majority of Londoners do and who BTW don't own a car) the rise is been minimal. Why don't we keep the transport cheaper for those who live, work and contribute to the city and let tourists and occasional public transport users foot the bill? I have both a car and an Oyster card and the majority of times, I go to work by tube. If you really want to pick on Red Ken, try something that doesn't involve transport or the environment.

they are undoubtedy better for the environment that diesel ones bro, but the power is still produced from power stations run on fossil fuels??..hydro power is also a good way to produce 'leccy, but i really feel we are missing a trick flushing away thousands of gallons of 'fuel' a day in old vegoil, oil from car engines etc....that could easily, and relatively cheaply, be made into fuel for our public transport...vegoil is virtually zero pollutant and is BETTER for your engine....

Palmy, BTW, most TfL London buses are Mercedes now, would that swing your argument?

Why not construct barriers around the M25 saying "Yokels out" or "Non-Londoners forbidden beyond this point"?
It'd keep all of us naughty occasional users from cluttering up your public transport system.

will you stop bleating on about "power still produced by un-sustainable means"

nobody cares! just get the soot out of my face when im trying to pop to the shops and im happy... atleast if all the poloution is at the powerstations then it makes it easier to develop a system to get that all filtered and clean, instead of having millions of filters of varying ages/design/quality running around all over the streets.

nuclear power, hydro power, wind power fappin girbil power i dont care... just make it so and let us do what me want to...cheaply!

Ever tried a Brompton? Fantastic bikes. Just upgraded mine to the Titanium version. You can take them virtually anywhere, making life much easier on a trip to the city. And you don't have to worry about some troll slicing through your security chain with bolt cutters, as you just fold the bike up and take it with you!

SR, ive seen those on the train!

Commuters use them to ride to & from the train or tube station to their office & to their home.

They are a nice piece of engineering indeed.

How similar to a road bike are they to ride? I am used to 20 years of light road bikes.

I've had to lift one before now and they are not all that light - i suppose they have to build the strength into them and there's the extra stuff to fasten them together. They take up the space of a medium suitcase - much easier for us than a full sized bike which takes up the spaec of a large suitcase and two passengers! Big Grin

I imagine they have extra brackets etc....

Ive never looked closely at one but they look a very nice design.

The rare time I have taken my bike on the train, ive put it in the bike rack next to the guard carriage.

Seems they do lightweight versions now - I've just googled it and you can get the heavyweight steel or lightweight aluminium - now where have we heard that before!

Made in London, so another British product of which we can still be proud. Not as good to ride as a 'proper' road bike but still very nice. I think you would be surprised.
The lightest Titanium version is only 9.7kg - how does that compare with your road bike?

Because of the small wheels and light weight, you can leave anything standing at the lights (Oh No, I am turning into Mister P1). They'll probably come blasting past you later, but it puts a smile on your face every time.
If I come to one of the car meets, I'll stick it in the boot and you can try it.

Brompton is considered the 'Rolls Royce' of folding bikes. They use mostly steel for the frame as the added strength is necessary due to the torsional forces. Aluminium is only used for the handlebars. On the superlight models like mine, much of the steel is replaced by a Titanium alloy, including the rear frame, seat post, front forks etc.
Some cheaper competitors do use aluminium, but this affects the way the bike handles and is generally considered inferior.
