Does anyone else agree that this bloke is little more than a piece of plyable commerce on legs?

A million pounds per fortnight (Eek) for someone who isn't even good enough to get in many of the world's best teams now?

To think that a good friend of mine, who is a Cancer Scientist and will graft day and sometimes night for 40 YEARS ( Eek) for what he gets in 14 days, some of which will be spent lounging around doing nothing.
FFS!

Free market, yes, but when it goes crazy like this, something is badly badly wrong.

You only need to look at Jade Goody to see how bad things have become - at least Becks is (or was?) a decent footballer!

What gets me is how people will complain and then go and tune into BB - for Pete's sake if we all ignored it then it would go away, but I supose Chavs will be Chavs! Roll Eyes

...while i agree in principle, its a strange moral argument....in an ideal world, we would all only earn what we need to live on...we would live in the smallest house we needed and run the cheapest most economical car we need....but we dont live in an ideal world...and im glad we dont.....yes beckhams earnings are obscene....but you would take the money too...i know i would....its how people handle their enormous wealth, what kind of contribution they make to society etc..that counts....and in all fairness, beckham does make some valid contributions...its the old who draws the line and where argument....is beckham making so much money any worse than the lottery making millionaires every week.....chairmans of industry commanding multi million pound salarys and bonuses.......

He is 'becoming a millionaire' every 2 weeks though.
For years and years on end!

That sort of income for doing very little is obscene.

Actually Biggbn-and choose to believe me or otherwise-i would NOT take that sort of money.

I could never spend it, only waste it, so i would give most of it away to worthy causes, say after the first few million in the bank, genuinely.

He was recently described as 'a nice guy ruined by greed'.
I agree. Pure greed has taken him over.

I would/have never crave(d) hundreds of millions of pounds. I would never want that amount.

2 million quid will be fine if Becks fancies giving some small change away.

It would certainly be ethically and morally unacceptable if were not to use this huge excess wealth for some worthy cause, even if he doesn't hand over huge wedges of cash.

Set up a foundation, use it as a base found and give the interest away, any thing.

his various football academys are a good thing.....im not condoning the fact he earns so much, and that, nox and b, is exactly what im saying...the mark of any huge earner should be how he handles himself and what he puts back into society....personally, id take the money and blow it all on drink, drugs and big women.....but im shallow and would be dead in 6 months......

I don't have a problem with I'm earning the amount he does, or how he spends it - he is, afterall, a symbol of the ultimate dream - a council house boy who found his skill in football and is now on target to be a billionaire.

I would just struggle with myself on a personal level and being brought up within a Christian family not to then reimburse some of that vast excess wealth, which will never be touched, in to some good and worthy causes to make the world a better place.

Totally his choice as is the beauty of Democracy.

I'd make sure, as far as i could, that i stayed healthy and happy as long as possible!

Once i had got the cars/house i wanted and helped immediate family, 2 million in the bank would be plenty.

I am on a very modest income nowadays. But i give £20 per month to the charity of my choice and whlist a small offering, i am happy i am helping.

I genuinely hate seeing people with far, far more money than they could ever use. It is immoral as far as i am concerned.

Reward hard work, yes. Many millionaires i take my hat off to.

But there has to be a point at which the money could be so much more useful than making millions for one household.

Many years ago I was offered a contract to be a professional cricketer with a County side. After much inner turmoil, I decided to choose commerce instead. In those days, you were only paid (very badly) for 6 months and then had to find another job in the winter. That was too far on the negative side, but now the pendulum has swung too much the other way. But that's supply and demand for you.
I know I would have taken that kind of money if it had been forthcoming, but I do agree that you couldn't live with yourself if you didn't use your vast wealth to help others. I would probably have done something to help in the healthcare field as the health service in this country is in such a state.

26 million a year is absurd for what he does.

Exactly. It used to be that if you studied hard, passed all your exams and achieved the best qualifications you could , then a good job and suitable remuneration would follow. Now it has all been turned on its head. Numbskulls like Jade Baddy are proof that you don't need any qualifications at all to become seriously rich with no talent at all. I have no idea how all this can be reversed.
On the sporting front, you only have to compare how articulate Americans are (as one example) compared with ours to see how far we have slid down the 'famous for 15 mins' slope. And the more that these 'celebrities' are featured in magazines and chat shows, the more that the trolls want to emulate them.
Aaaah!

It's good money being saved up/wasted, which other people badly need.
Simple as that.

Once a person is worth more than say 50 million, it's all unnecessary to have more.
