ok have luckily found an extract of the law now and seen that speedo in mph and kph must be fitted. appears that you could use a gps device instead of a standard car speedo, aslong as it could switch to kph if required. i might have to reead the whole traffic act to see what other rules dont come under MOT.

.......
There's got to be a hundred reasons why i should listen to diesel owners, but right now, i can't think of any.

Using your link as a reference, the MoT examiner does not actually check the legally-required angles of visibility of the lights of a vehicle....which may vary according to its age.

the only requirement of a tester (who is not required to have the relevant jigs to identify correct angles of visibility...a govt. tester at a VOSA testing station does) is to identify if in his opinion at least 50% of the front /rear side or marker lights can be seen from the side...which is why sidelight lenses tend to stick out a bit. Nor is the tester required to actually measure the heights of lights to see if they conform with the Road Traffic Act(Construction & Use regs)...merely that they look roughly equal and level...a cursory check at best...since a vehicle can still be presented for an MoT even if it has sustained some damage.

the only measured check on the headlights is for beam alignment.

be aware the Mot is nothing more than a roadworthiness check.

when we buy a new car we assume the dealer/manufacturer has ensured everything about that car complies with this country's laws.

for example, having the correct 'E-number' on each lens?

would YOU trust a dealer?????
