WHat engine did you get? Diesel??
This is very true dja. And lest us not forget, the Phaeton is a BIG depreciator.
I went for LWB with the 4-seat pack & rear center console.... and..... wait for it.... its an OILER!
Not really my first choice of engine but they dont do the 3.2 V6 petrol with the kit i want unless i waste 65 grand on a brand new one - which is 65 grand more than i can afford because I am a poor peasant.
So 5.0 V10 TDI it is... cough cough rattle rattle WHOOOOOOOOOOSH!

Its ok dja Ive still got the 4 Petrol cars! I LOVE petrol if i could have the W12 6.0 petrol Phaeton I would.. I so nearly bought one but i would enjoy it for a few months before going bankrupt. Imagine the servicing costs! 24 spark plugs! And 11mpg !
See how it goes I guess - if i get fed up with driving around in a cloud of accrid black smoke & wearing ear cans, I will get a W12, then go bust in 6 months but have fun doing it....
I am looking forward to it but also rather nervous because its a big investment into (almost) unknown territory.
I saw one parked today in Belsize Park, which is in England, with a chauffeur waiting, and another on the A4 by Chiswick which is also in England being driven along. Both were 3.2 V6 LWB.
I hope the V10 is as good as everyone is saying!
The styling is unusual, even though i had a client on board i purposely followed the one on the A4 so that I could observe what it was like on the road. Its different to a M-B and slightly unusual to look at - but it will be interesting nonetheless....

You're very welcome. Bet its not as fast as my 1.4 TDCi!!!!!!
a bit of amusement i see.... so your 1.4 tdci is capable of 155mph, has a 6.5 sec 0-60 time & is 300+bhp???
-------------------------------------------- Two junior particle physicists were dismissed today after using the Large Hadron Collider to smash conkers into each other at near-light speed.
Unfortunately it wasnt the success VW intended, youre right rja1980. They invested a complete FORTUNE on a revolutionary factory where the Phaeton is handbuilt, and all that engineering excellence... but then they sat & waited for people to buy... and waited.... and waited... and nothing happened.
I absolutely cant understand why, it astonished me when i test drove it, and that was just the basic model. OV 55 FDJ is a very high spec, tricked up model which i am told its a far cry from the basic 3.0 i tried. We shall soon find out, next saturday.. My nerves are getting very very weak indeed!
you will have the added bonus that if someone is getting to close to your back bumper when you are ferrying celebrity clients about in the phaeton tractor, you can just floor it and dissapear, leaving a huge cloud of soot particulates blinding the paparazzi behind, james bond stylee, as you shoot into the next county on a huge wave of effortless diesel torque..

LOL!
Palmira driving a DIESEL? Whatever next? (Look for the paperboy dropping a copy of the Guardian at the office....)
I'm not one to criticise though, been out this weekend and made a purchase....
I've done what i've often said I'd never do again...bought a car that someone fitted a tractor engine to!
Worse than that, it's got the dreaded Vauxhall badge on the front....
Yes, folks I've gone stark raving mad and swapped my Volvo V70 2.4 (heavenly petrol) with a Vauxhall, ahem Vectra with a diesel engine!!!!
Actually, it's 54 reg 1.9 CDTI (150) SRI with Sat Nav. It drives much better than the boggo cars and doesn't look quite so dull, honest!
I have to admit, the 1.9 derv FIAT/Alfa unit is a corker. Really quite smooth and not TOO tractor like. Should help the old fuel bills and I can live up to my Epithet of OilBurner now!
You might ask (or not?), why a Vectra, of all cars, and one that fills up from the wrong pump? Cost, value, spec, age & mileage. Nothing else to touch it when you take all those into account, IMHO.
And to think I started the day by looking at Honda Accord 2.4 (petrol!) Executive Tourers! The Vauxhall stealer also had a Zafira GSi, was very tempted...
Is nobody safe from the lure of diesel?
All I need now is a white shirt to hang in the back window!

Ah yes biggbn , i drove a celeb this morning who is in the new James Bond film. We talked about cars a bit & he thinks we should get a new Aston Martin Rapide, to complement Bond's Aston theme. I agree, but only if they pay for it and the fuel!
He had never heard of a VW Phaeton though ! But loves my E320 Avantgarde. Interesting to hear the viewpoints of these people because they spend their lives flying around the world & they have a chauffeur in each country who they use & know well. I am the one the use here in London, which is in England.
His chauffeur in the West Indies has a new S600 LWB. Someone is being paid too much....

pfft! I'll go to LPG first. Seriously, only cash seperates me from my dream of a Bi-Fuel turbo'd LPG car (Citroen CX GTi Turbo 2 seems ideal) with a boost controller. LPG gives you better performance and efficiency but only at higher compression. This is where the boost controller comes in. Normal boost on petrol, switch to LPG, crank up the boost and therefore the effective compression, cheap power!
I'm sure its not quite as simple as it sounds in real life, but the theory seems sound.

Very nice classic car, but mechanically complex!!
Be careful with LPG, it destroys the cylinder liners & ruins engines. Some chauffeurs tried it when it first came out & it lunched their engines, caused them to cough & splutter, and reeked of rotten eggs.
Then when they went to get new engines, the manufacturers said it wasnt covered under warranty because fitting LPG is not sticking to how the car was designed and therefore qualifies as abuse or negligence.
cx gti turbo 2 is one of my all time favourites..they still occasionally turn up in the classifieds for pennies but most seem ridiculously overpriced nowdays...want one soon...although previuous citroens i have owned still cause me a nervous tic in my left eye when i hear the words hydropneumatic, suspension and citroen mentioned...fond memories of the big red stop sign on my cx gti lighting up at about 80 on a favourite back road...followed quickly by suspension, steering and braking giving up the ghost slowly but simultaneously..niiice...mate had an lpg audi a8 and it ran great for a year then developed a miss at low rpm, caused, reckoned the local vdub/audi guru by the high 'dry' temperatures the lpg burns at....dunno if this is true but id be wary of lpg unless it was factory fitted or very cheap...like the 86 range rover 3500 manual lpg im going to see tomorrow......
