Vauxhall has really got it's act together with the VXR brand.

Proper old school hot rods that do what they say on the tin.

The Corsa should trample all over the likes of the Mini Cooper S for less money, although the motoring journo's won't see it that way, as the Corsa is not made by BMW.

It's going to give the heavier and much less torquey Clio 197 a run, that's for sure!
Although the Renaultsport is getting good reviews i see.

Clio 197 -v- Corsa VXR should be the small hot hatch equivalent of Ali -v- Frazier!!!!! Big Grin

It will be a hard fought & keenly contested showdown.

My money is on the Vauxhall. Cool

engine sounds good, but sadly the new corsa is neither small or light, its about the same weight as the civic type r (1200kgs), and i know i would prefer the honda engine and revs. and everything else abut the honda really.
the corsa is not a supermini but a medium sized family car in my opinion.

corsa looks a hoot, but will be typical hot vauxhall....searingly quick in a straight line, but lacking in the ultimate handling delicacy of say, the clio 197 or hot pugs.....cracking looking package though and hard to beat at the price...i wish people wouldnt be so bloody snobbish about vauxhall...they build good cars...

SRi 130 was nippy. Very torquey and pulled to 130 nicely.

I had one for 5 years in the 80s and really enjoyed it. I did 310,000 motorway miles in it and only the wiper motor and alternator actually went wrong. It was totalled on the M27 by a Dutch artic delivering flowers. Bits of SRi all over the road unfortunately. He was left hand drive and pulled out without seeing me as I was overtaking. Caught the rear bumper and spun me round anti-clockwise. He jacknifed and as I rotated I smashed into his artic side bursting both offside tyres and nearly taking my door off (luckily he had the bars to stop cars going underneath) and this made me spin clockwise and I somehow ended up parked neatly on the hard shoulder with rush hour traffic trying to miss the bits on the road. I remember feeling to see if I had all my arms and legs and then stepped over the crash barrier and waited for the ambulance etc.

Great shame as the company then gave me a Cavalier diesel which was truly awful.

the 300bhp 350z has 18" wheels, thats how ridiculous it it to have a corsa from the dealership wearing them.

My 500 bhp Corvette had 15s, smaller than a Mini Cooper.

I don't really get what the wheel size vs. horsepower has to do with anything. Surely it's a styling choice, and an option at that?

Or are you trying to say "Look! They offer 18" wheels! It's a chav's car! Laugh at the chav car everyone! Ha!"?

But offers advantages in other ways Nox, else cars like the Ferrari 599 and Porsche 997 turbo and the Evos/CSLs of this world would be running around with 15s on.

New Vauxhall's another buzz bomb. Give me a proper car with 6 or 8 cylinders instead. Big wheels are cool and work well on big cars.

Not forgetting the fact that it's expected to go on sale at 14/15k, not overpriced for such a nippy little car.

And the base corsa has reviewed well, commended on its handling and ride, as well as build quality.

Should be 15k well spent.

I'm sure in a few years time the chavs will get their hands on some though, and slot in a 2.0T from an astra (if it fits Razz)

yes this is a chav car. manufacturers do the best they can to make cars as chav as possible as they know they are multiplying like rats in the uk population, so they need to sell cars to them.
this corsa would be just right on 15" wheels.

It can also cause tramlining in some cases. It certainly did with the Accord 2.4 on the wider wheels until they modified it to improve matters.
