Anyone got one? Any thoughts?

I'm thinking about getting one to cart my gear around and also for it to double up as a run around for me and mine, just wanted the low down really.

Thanks!

I agree with we3r1, it wouldnt be my cup of tea but then i dont have the same needs as you. Ignore what people say on here about it possibly being rubbish we banter all the time about whats good and whats not and use different yardsticks to do this as do motoring journalists. Makes me laugh in car mags where they talk about handling and turn in when they are driving an MPV! horses for courses surely. Make a shortlist of similar cars test drive them all and make ur own choice. To hell with what anyone thinks buy what you like. I went the way of the herd a few years ago rather than following my own desire sold it six months later huge loss and bought what i wanted in the first place its the only way you can be happy

My wife and I bought a 1.6 16v petrol forte model 6 months ago, and it really is a useful versatile vehicle! Even with our 3 girls and 2 large dogs onboard, there is still room for picnic boxes, prams etc! This is the fastest of the bunch, taking just over 11 seconds to do 0-62 m.p.h., so it's not a sports car, but is a lot more practical!
The only downside to these cars is you do get bodyroll if you take a tight corner to quickly, so it's a case of adapting your driving. Citroen always have great deals on, personally I would recommend the 1.6 petrol, or the 1.6 HDi diesel model (92 bhp)
Hope this info will be of some use?
Now go and take a test drive!

You have given up on life, eat plain Wheatabix for breakfast and drink glasses of tap water when thirsty. You enjoy watching the Golf and Cricket, especially the Bowls when they come on once a year. Oxfam and George are you first port of call for replacement clothing. You drive a Berlingo.

im sure the biggets engined diesel takes about 16 seconds to 60, bit slow in terms of acceleration....most modern diesel cars (golfs astras etc etc) can do half that.

I'm a garden designer with a young child. Some days the car will be used for carting around lawnmowers and compost, other days my child. A flash car that can't get scratched and or have juice spilt in it just won't do for me.

Test drive it is then peeps! Thanks! Cool

You are thinking of the old 2 Litre diesel. It has now been replaced and the biggest engined one has 92 bhp (1.6HDi) and does 0-60 in about 12.9 seconds which I find perfectly adequate for a family car.

bambi, we have had ours for 8 weeks now and our previous cars were a 1.9 JTD Fiat Multipla and 4 2.5 litre Volvo V70s. The Berlingo is a lovely car and I would go for the top of the line 1.6 HDi Multispace Desire. We got it with air-conditioning, back-up sensors and the Electronic Stability Program which stops the car from rolling and keeps it under control in extreme manoeuvres. The RDS radio/cd is of good quality and the seats are comfortable. The Berlingo scored 4* in the latest crash tests Smile .

We got the car with the Modutop which has 5 glass panels in the roof and it gives you an extra 110 litres of overhead luggage space in aircraft type lockers. It is really good for families because the kids have their own lockers for food, drinks and Ipods Cool. It is also good for storing maps and travel brochures. There are loads of cubby holes, underseat storage on the passenger side, cubbies in the rear footwells, nets in the boot. The car converts to load lugging in seconds (no removing seats or headrests) with a 3,000 litre boot. We get about 53 mpg and our longest trip so far has been from Harrogate to Monchengladbach by way of the Eurotunnel. There is something called the modubox in the boot which hold about 18 litres and has wheels. We find it great to stop the bottles of Shiraz and Chardonnay from rolling about and it holds lots of groceries.

Just the thing for a boy racer with a small willy? no Razz . But for a family with 2 or 3 kids and a dog- at about £11K all dressed it is super Big Grin .

Any questions, please ask.

I forgot to add:

Any complaints? Citroen UK has some very strange marketing ideas as the happy days adverts have shown Mad . The Europeans get 14 exterior colours and 4 interior colours (some very funky). We end up with 2 fairly dull interior colours and 8 not so great exterior colours. As we are stationed in Germany for another 2 years I wanted to go for a LHD car but She Who Must Be Obeyed said no Frown .

These types of Combis are very popular on the continent, far more spacious and thousands cheaper than a comparable estate but I think we Brits are a bit snooty about this type of practical car. I counted 11 Combi (as opposed to Van) Berlingos going past in our little village in Germany in 5 minutes.

There are some safety concerns with the Kangoo and it is not nearly as family friendly as the Berlingo Multispace. I believe the Berlingo outsells it by a wide margin Wink .

Sounds like the girlfriends Micra although there is a certain pleasure in wringing the neck of something so dynamically challenged. This one threatened to bounce into the bushes on the straight at 60mph Eek and also threatens to veer off into the scenery at every corner. However this seems somewhat endearing ... go figure!

avro, thanks for the warm welcome! Didn't mean to sound like some hot head, I'm usually quite a laid back friendly guy. I couldn't care less if noxide slagged off the Berlingo (or any other car) I just don't see the need for personal insults to a cross section of people who drive a particular car, how pathetic! Anyways, getting back to the Berlingo - I have read that 2 adult sized mountain bikes can be carried standing upright in the boot?! Last week I had to transport a cupboard, that wouldn't fit into my Dad's Mondeo estate. The 6 lashing hooks come in very handy for stuff like this.

No Palmira, you are wrong (but not in doubt Big Grin ). It is a very fine, supercool family car. If you want something ghastly go for the BMW X5 with blackened windows. Ninja.

Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder. If you are married with 2 or 3 kids and a dog, this car is hard to beat and almost every (if not every) car expert in the business will agree. Wink

BTW I forgot to mention that it comes with foglights and fold down trays on the front seat backs. My kids love the latter.

I absolutely agree with you about beauty being in eye of the beholder, a difficult choice a Range Rover Vogue or a Berlingo?
Perhaps the Berlingo with its lovely wipe clean interior could be considered supercool by many, it is all a matter of taste after all.

I really don't think anything would need to be wiped clean from a Berlingo. Big Grin
