Question for any Current Model Civic Owners
or Friends of owners !!

As Some of you may be aware we currently have
an 04 Civic and an 04 CR-V on the family fleet Big Grin
Both cars will be replaced next year th CR-V with the all new model and the Civic either with the 07my Civic or a Jazz

Q1. I have recently heard that some people are having a 6-8 week wait for delivery of their new civic - Does anyone have any experience of this?

Q2. What (if any) are the current issues or problems with the civic?
( I know Honda has had more than it's fair share with this all new design)

Any info would be much appreciated Smile

I have driven both the petrol and diesel Civics and various Jazzes (Jazzi?) as these are the courtesy cars I get when my Accord is serviced. It really depends on how you will use the cars but I assume the Civic is the 2nd car?
My main dealer has no major probs with Civic or Jazz to report but my observations are:
Civic has different rear suspension from previous models which used a full double-wishbone arrangement (like the Accord) and now use a cheaper, more space-efficient torsion beam. I can certainly tell the difference on the road as we have had many Civics in the past.
I found the ride quite firm and the cabin noise somewhat intrusive. The A pillars are also very thick and can affect visibility at junctions etc. Overall I was somewhat underwhelmed and chose to have another Accord rather than change to a Civic (which was my original plan when I saw the concept model).
However, I am VERY impressed with every courtesy Jazz I am given and would choose this over the Civic as a second car (except my wife loves her HRV too much!).
Hope this may help somewhat.

Thanks SR-71 Smile

Yes I have driven several Jazzes as well as courtesy cars when the CR-V and Civic have been in for their respective services
I was just curious as I think Honda have had a few problems with electrics and rear suspension (as you mentioned and quite a few of the 06 civics)

I think things have improved with the 07my cars however - ah well will try and sweet talk my dealer into an extended test drive
Cool

p.s. the rear visibility is also compromised by the spoiler and there is no rear screen wiper!
I do like the large sunroof but am surprised it does not open - cost cutting?
I have a very good local main dealer who will always let me have the demo car over a weekend so that I can really give it a good run over local roads plus a long motorway run.
I have usually ended up buying a 6 month old demo model rather than new and the savings were considerable.

We were on the market few months ago in order to buy a car.We bought the Volvo S40 1.8.We liked the Civic(my brother and I especially the hatch,my parents the saloon)but it was cheaper and we were looking for something better. And it really is cheap(We did not look for the Accord as in this price category-that of Volvo S40- Honda does not sell here). The steel used(especially if you compare the luggage compartement openings, the one of Volvo is much heavier),plastics feel cheap etc...(Honda Civic has scored only 4 EuronCap stars).
But the main issue was the delivery time: We went in March '06 and they told us that we should wait until January '07 to get our car!!!!We did not need a car immediately however we could not trust such a company and dealership...It is ridiculous...It is not an S-class.
Here in Greece we have a very poor road quality(except for some highways)and the Civic suspension was not good. However it is a very practical and value-for-money car.And it is something different but eccentric too.Far better than a Corolla...(Here in Greece Toyota has a great dealership so it is considered better than Honda...)

The waitlist for certain models and colours
ws quite long back then and in fact you can wait up to 12 weeks for a factory order car
as the Civic has been so popular Honda has had to increase output to try and reduce these wait times (another winner for Honda)

Here however the demand is not so high as you claim. And they should have thought of such deveolpments in the UK factory as they have to increase production for the new CR-V...

both the Civic and the CRV seem to be more popular than first thought,i know that they have increased production twice on the civic and once on the CRV and that isn't out yet

Absolutely right Wobbley, an horrendous car.

I can only think of one worse car than a new civic, now that Rover have finally given up churning out hideous re-chromed 1990s civics with paisley trim.

The award for the car-which-is-worse-than-a-civic goes to the Honda FRV.

Stands for F---ing Rubbish Vehicle.

They offend me so much i cant bear to look at them.

Haha yes that one really is bad, it’s like they borrowed a design if Kia. I don't see how they expect anyone to buy one.

yes it is! Its gormless looking, and the very few ive seen on the road have gormless drivers occupying the front seat.

Have you seen the ridiculous 3 front seats? Can you imagine sitting with 2 passengers to your left???

I never have one passenger to my left - that seat is always pushed right the way forward to allow my client to luxuriate in the rear..

However id hate to have 2 people cramped up next to me in the front!!

Hideous, hideous car. Yuk, Only the far-east could come up with something so devoid of style or substance.

Cars like that are becoming so much like vans that they are even copying the seating arrangements.

I have to admit that there's nothing else with the presence of a 300C in that price bracket.
It really is a sinister machine. If somebody stepped out of it holding a violin case I'd probably have to buy a new pair of pants!

Just like Papa S I have no idea what they're like to drive or own.

That is a very very good car. For the money, it is remarkable value and the styling is superb, and so is that V8 engine. I know someone who has a black V8 300C, and is very pleased with it.

Buy one, and enjoy it. Its a proper car at a sensible price.

If they are rare in the UK,why there are these delivery times? Here in Greece it does not sell too as for a 1.4(82hp) with air conditioning you must pay 18500Euro or 12000 UK pounds!!!The one that sells quite well is the sedan version 1.8(140hp) which costs 14000 UK pounds(It is produced in Japan rather than in UK and is imported only in Greece. The whole of Europe does not get this car) and you may rarely see a UK built hatch(probably 1.8).

Careful Palmira
you don't want to get on the wrong side of me Wink Wink Big Grin

Honda can't build them quick enough The Civic's are selling like hotcakes and by the sounds of it the new CR-V is going to be a big seller as well
