It's 'permanent' unless you want it all undone, not a job in 10 minutes, no.

I see. At some stage, I need to get the exact bhp and torque checked on a rolling road. Any other tips to get more oomph as we have dismissed air filters and induction kits? I suspect not, especially as I value the ability to dismantle the existing arrangement at very short notice if needed.

Not really.
The key is that if you wish to have the ability to put it all back to standard quickly then big changes are out.
A remap is your best bet. After that, if you are definitely keeping the car, a bigger turbo and intercooler is the way forward.

Probably better to just get a more powerful car. Many of the bigger saloons lose a lot of their value quickly so are good used buys.

A BMW 330d would be a good choice. 204 bhp and 302 lbs-ft in late-2003 guise as one suggestion.
That goes to 250bhp and 400 lbs-ft remapped, serious oomph.

A stage one remap for the Astra VXR goes to 284bhp, and 313lb/ft of torque. Eek

Would be fun getting it down to the road, 237 bhp and a similar amount of torque gives the stock set-up a torrid time.

Many thanks. I feel a test drive coming on! I have heard excellent things about the 330d - pity the engine is in a BMW.

Dear Bamford...love your taste in cars

I have also had a 2003 and 2004 Honda accord loved em but nothing compared to this.
What do you think about chipping the 535d and is all diesel the same for the engine type or are there perfomance type diesels out there that will make it fly some more.Heard mercedes are bringing a new diesel out to compete with the beemer.regards B

Alright, i will go with this one for now, Mr. 535D.
(Is it a saloon and is it an M Sport model?)

Use the 'Ulitmate diesel' (or similar) every time.
It won't make it any more powerful, or if it does it's too small an increase to notice, but it does keep the engine cleaner and some people feel the engine is fractionally smoother on it, i was undecided on that one.
I did use it all the time though in my 535d, just as i now always put Ultimate unleaded in my M3 CSL and Westfield Seight.

Get a re-map by DMS, like i said and also, like i said, let me know when you want to do it because i can get it done £150 cheaper than usual for you.

Where abouts are you in the country and are you going to attend one of our Derby or London meetings soon?
I'd love to see your car.......
