I have run at various times
SD1 2600S 1982 800 Sterling 1998 75 1.8 Tourer 2002 620Si 1995, my current hack.
All have given good service.
Rovers are NOT the greatest cars on the planet, but they have been in my direct experience, competent, reliable and good value.

The Vitesse was 3528cc with Lucas Electronic Fuel Injection.
The previous models had holley carbs.
Probably along with everything else the EFI was goosed

Correct. And even with the cooking SU's giving only giving 150bhp it was enough to be able to spin the wheels from 0 all the way to 100 on a nice damp fairly straight dual carriageway. They would also eat the boy-racers choice, the 3-litre Capri for breakfast, and in an era when radios where considered the high of high-tech toys they cam fully loaded with leccy windows, sunroofs and the like - all stuff normally only found on expensive Jags at the time.

Its shape & sound was part of my childhood, and it was ahead of its time. my dad had one brand new, a 1982 3500SE automatic. Was superb.
I do hate to disppoint you, but Red Robbo had nothing to do with the SD1 - that is purely a figment of the fevered J. Clarkson's imagination and his rewriting of BL/Rover history. Red Robbo was the Union convener at Longbridge the old Austin plant. The SD1 was built at Rover's plant in Solihull and later in the old Morris plant at Cowley - now BMW's 'Plant Oxford' which produces the MINI.

Well done Lord for maintaining historical accuracy. Its a misconception that red robbo was the cause of all BL problems ni the 70s inductrial relations wise and thanks for reminding everyone. Are you one of these Rover forum people that Palmira upset? Im having a look at a mint P5b 1972 tonight as a potential classic runner. Thoughts?
