I was thinking more along the lines of Churchill when I read the title - or if we're talking cars, then Moss, Fangio or Clark.

Think its stretching things to call those two reprobrates heros! You'll have to be careful or they'll have to get cars with bigger doors to get their heads through!!! Big Grin

I met Moss last year at Goodwood. Not in a "Hi, let's have lunch" way more in a "Mr. Moss could you sign this please?" (I didn't ask, I was just pleased to be standing next to his golf cart).
He's very frail these days but still an absolute gent.
Rene Arnoux was a star (every time he saw someone aiming a camera at him he'd smile and wave) and Jackie Stewart was keen to chat but my all time favourite was Derek Bell- the man stood next to his E-Type for 2 hours just to chat to people.
Apologies as it's slightly off topic but I'm always amazed by how gentlemanly racing car drivers can be.

Fangio, Clark & Moss! What fantastic heroes to have. They really were incredible.

Add to that list Ascari and John Surtees for me.

Fangio is the reason I am into cars in the first place. My dad used to walk to the Buenos Aires GP Circuit as a young boy and watch Fangio winning races in his home country in a blue & yellow Maserati 4CLT and later the 250F

Loads of heroes, for me.
Some sporting, some musically, many in other walks of life.

Barry Sheene, Ken Dodd, Paul Jones (Manfred Mann, later The Manfreds), The Beatles, Eric Bristow, Alessandro de Tomaso, Henry Ford, Charlie Chaplin, to name but few.

Evel Kneivel anyone?
I had a drink with him in 1996 at S.E.M.A., he's a total loon, on or off a bike! Eek

I notice nobodies included Ralf Schumacher in their lists of heroes! Big Grin

I don’t really have any heroes as such, but if I had to name one I’d probably say Steve McQueen.

Ralf seems to be quite a gent. Moreso than a lot of the current drivers. It's just a shame he doesn't seem to have as much concentration as other drivers.

Buddy didn't do 'the business' long enough imo, not his fault i know, but heroes do it over a long time, for me.
No doubting the other two.

Personally, if I was going to pick an F1 driver, it would be from an age where driver aids were a lot less.

Bentley boys anyone? Thems thin tyres.
