Oh true, I didnt know they were badged as MR2's in the UK as well as the US.
I would've been impressed if you could get an S2000 for under 6k, theyre the equivalent of 13-14k over here still

you can get them here for about £7k at the cheapest. for a 1999 model.

i have decided against old cars, i only want to do yearly oil changes and servicing nothing else if can be helped! as for roadster need to see if auto box takes the fun away.? they have stopped making it i saw from looking at smarts website, what went wrong with that? model hostory says they all come with air-con aswell, cant see a lightweight low spec version.

i've just read some full reviews on the roadster and its auto box is meant o be terrible. i love doing super fast gear changes in my cars. i dont think i could ever put up with the slowness.

You might struggle to find something, with all the criteria you seem to have!

will likely go with my 1st intincts, will test drive an mx-5 and mr2 soon. unless an early mk1 elise is worth considering? same money for a 1996 elise as an 2002 mx-5 though..

Try a smart roadster, the auto box grows on you. Unless you do a lot of motorway driving, then the MX5 is a better choice. An old elise is a good choice but watch for track day abuse on used cars, heavy stone chipped bodywork suggest a beaching in the gravel traps.

Just remembered another mid engined rear drive car that night be okay fr you - the MG F, much like an MX5, very cheap on the used market.

The TF is a better bet with cooling and, more importantly, significant suspension improvements. Look for the rarer 160 BHP VVC version which has massively better performance and brakes. As with any convertible, try and get aircon for winter use to keep the windows from misting.
