I'm not sure why anyone would think that Skodas are slow - looking at their competition history they have a very good record in motor racing, especially rallying - you don't get that by being slow....
I went round their Museum at their factory in the Czech Republic when I was over there and they even had a single seater, though I'm not sure what it competed in - probably the Russian equivelent of F1!

glad to be rid of the balancing of the clutch malarky
was never a case of not able to btw, a while back it would have been painful after about an hour of driving but thanks to steroid injections & help from a rather cute (female) physio am better now
why is it when I stand on my head that sometimes, just sometimes ......?
I have a dodgy left leg, and can only drive a manual for short periods. So I was forced to get an automatic - but I wouldn't want a manual now even if I was 100%.
I CAN see the advantages of manual transmission for "keen drivers", but for a mere "motorist" like myself it helps reduce the stress of driving.
And even if you are a keen driver, a DSG-type gearbox with paddle-shift must be tempting, surely?
