This morning upon my travels I stumbled across a very nice car indeed.
A Jaguar XJ12 - X300.
They only made a very small number of the X300 saloon models with the V12 engine, before no longer using the V12 in favour of the awful 4.0 liter V8.
The V8 was slow and lifeless, whereas the V12 is legendary.
The XJ40 was popular in V12 form, and Jaguar carried the V12 engine over to the X300 for a very short time.
What a fantastic car. The best of both - reliability and modernity of an X300 with one of the best engines ever made - that V12 was part of the "old Jaguar" magic before they became "new Jaguar" which produces anodyne, bland and downright awful cars.
you got more than a few in daimler double six spec, usually lwb models...great cars, great engines......id like to finsd a late series 3 xj12..these were built to order alongside the current xj40 up till, '92 i think.....now THAT would be my ultimate jag, classic styling and modern build quality...that said, i went to see a 1990 example a few months ago and i wouldnt have let my dog sleep in it...!!
no...i dont like the 220....it could have been so much better if it had been fitted with the promised v12...did you know that the show car spec was a big old v12 motor and jaguar took hundreds of deposits on the strength of that...deposits which were promptly cancelled when it became apparent the car was to be fitted with a glorified metro 6r4....and therefore distant cousin of the ancient buick v8, engine....that sounded like a washing machine on fast spin cycle.....lovely looking car, but why so HUGE.....
