42k on the road nothing beats the 535d. I own a carbon black 535D Msport , auto/trip cream leather, high gloss wood, 19" alloys.. lots of grunt great mpg , looks the biz a real eyeturner as i fly past them in there evos, subarus and plastic cars....
Few people here will support your car as much as i will, having owned a tuned one myself, but they're not quite THAT good, fella. You won't see where an FQ 340-360-400 Evo went, i am afraid.
BMW535D, your car is indeed highly capable, but there are better cars still out there. £42K is a lot of money. You paid £6K more than i did, although you have higher spec in fairness it seems. But £42K buys a lot of car now. Is it running a stock map still
I have to put my oar in the 535d is nice, but is nowhere near the top of my list, and the EVO would not even make my list.
My car wish list (a moving feast) has the cars that appeal to me.
Camry 3.5 A/T Teane 3.5 A/T
As a big Honda fan I had a booted Civic on hire in US it is almost the size of the Accord and it felt tremendously agile for the size. But it does not do everything I look for in a vehicle.
I have driven a new C Class basic 200, and was very pleasantly surprised, front seat accommodation very good, and it drove very well.
Following on from here I'm off to Central Asia for a couple of months so the 535d would be no use there, (very difficult to source reasonable deisel).
I will not disagree that it is a superb car & who knows, it might be the best car in real terms (how do you judge such things?), but to say it's a head turner is laughable.
No 5 series ever turned my head.
The 5 series is just another BMW saloon, the like of which you see 30 - 40 times a day on average.
If you want a head turning 4 dr saloon, it has to be the Chrysler 300C.
Bah Humbug! What possible reason could you have for choosing a 123d over 135i? . . . .And don't say fuel economy. If you are watching the pennies that much, you shouldn't be looking at a 30k car.
Diesel power has its strengths and has its place, but not in a handsome sports car.
I drive a diesel, so you can't accuse me of anti-diesel bigotry. I'm just telling it like it is.

I have to agree with Homer Simpson's belly , the 5 series is certainly not what I would call a head turner, although it is a very nice car in M5 or sport form.
I would much rather a 545i myself, but each to their own!!!!
A CHRYSER 300C A LEXUS NOT A HEAD TURNER !!! A TOYOTA CAMRY ?? TEANE ???
Its all a matter of taste I suppose , I Have it and you dreamers dont...they dont call them the ULTIMATE driving machines for nothing...any of the above are taxis and would never be on my list the only alternative is a M5. A Chrysler they will all be rust buckets in 2 years what a joke, Toyota Camry my dad dove one of them in the 70's as for Lexus a tarted up toyota. Again its my opinion I love it..have driven everything and nothing has its allround performance, style and knicker elastic snapping qualities. again my opinion you keep the taxis ill keep the ultimate driving machine.walked into a lexus showroom once...had a giggle and walked out, rather catch a bus.
also fool a 450 lexus has a larger engine does it not !!!! so i suppose a 5 ltr M5 would leave your lexus for dead also...idiot. a 535d is a 3ltr bi turbo...will still be running around the roads when your toyota er sorry lexus has long rusted away.
Sure, and it's a great car and all that. You love it. It's understandable. But remember it's just a phase that you are going through. In 10 years time, you won't recognise yourself. Your car will be "Dad's Taxi". You'll be ferrying your son or daughter around and be so concerned for their safety. Plus, there will be those weekend shopping trips to Ikea or B & Q, as you get stuck in to those middle-aged chores that the property owner has to face. I can see you in a nice 2 litre diesel Volvo estate, with a thule storage pack on the roof-rack.
I can hear you saying "No, not me. It won't happen to me". But it will. Resistance is futile.
You'll be a changed man. You will read threads like this one on car forums, and shake your head sadly at posters who boast about how great their car is, and how they can overtake such-and-such-car "coz my car is like dead fast, innit"
PS. If you re-read this thread and pay particular attention to Bamford's posts, you may learn many things to your advantage.
