Hold on a second, to be exact, the GTR in standard spec is the 3rd fastest production car in the world... Admittedly, it is 3rd only to the Carrera GT and Zonda F, and the total difference is 1.2 seconds, but if anything, that shows what an incredible machine the GTR is. I saw one last week up in Auckland, while up there for a rock concert, Im guessing it was a journalist driving or a private import, but it was a magnificient sight to behold!

according to nissan its the worlds fastest number 1 officially, around the nurburgring. and thats where all cars are benchmarked.
....... There's got to be a hundred reasons why i should listen to diesel owners, but right now, i can't think of any.

Wrong! I have done enough track work, to know different, sorry. The std GTR, at a porky 1,700 kgs, wouldn't lap as quickly as my Westfield, no way would it. No way could it. You only have to look at the cars that the Caterham R500 Superlight beats around a track for proof of that. Or those that the Ariel Atom slays. Nope, sorry, a car weighing 1,700 kgs is going to take far more effort to move and very importantly, to stop, than one weighing just over a third of that weight. Because this car weighs so little, everything can be smaller, the brakes, the suspension, the tyres, etc. My car would also out-accelerate a Nissan GTR, by a HUGE margin. It has already recorded an 11.71 quarter-mile and that was with a clutch badly worn and wrong-sized rear tyres. Both these things are being put right next week.
CATERHAM R400 SUPERLIGHT COMING SOON.

I am talking about lapping UK circuits, not an 8-mile road course, btw. I have done the Nurburgring several times, with a best of 8-32, achieved in my Lancer Evolution V111, (375 bhp). The Nissan is of course an amazing car, but for me needs to be lighter to be called an all-time great. The V-spec just about qualifies, but is still a heavy car. Beach, are you aware that my car will beat a Veyron to 100 mph? Using a 1998cc engine designed 20 years ago.

yeah i'm not disputing the facts of the power to weight, and agree on smaller tighter tracks the lighter car will win. silverstone full circuit perhaps would be different.

in terms of production cars only, i reckon the GTR will be the fastest on the top gear track. will be interesting to see how it does, if they do actually test it.

What time do you reckon you can lap the 'ring in your car Bamford. There are some pretty long straights and high speed corners and in these sections the GT-R will beat you. Overall it will take some real mean driving from you to beat the GT-R around the Nurburgring. In the shorter twister tracts i me thinks you will win.

That's exactly what i said! This car has done it's best work by 120 mph, so on a fast road course, it would naturally suffer, compared to cars with bigger engines and better streamlining. But come back to me in a month and tell me how many times, on the road, you went over 120 mph. The point is, that on the road and on a UK track, my car will be as quick, if not quicker, than anything ever sold to the street-driving public, yet has cost me only what one would spend on a new Mondeo.
