I saw the perfect car today in the showroom (i just passed yesterday) the salesman said since i am a new driver (27 years old) it wouldnt come with free insurance also it has 220 miles on the clock and was refused by a customer because it had the wrong options so its classed as used the car in question is a C1 and the salesmen wants £7,000 for it is this a good deal or a bad deal? and is he being straight about the insurance? he also said nobody insures first time drivers there's small print on every car that says they do any help would be great!
C1s new are from £6k to £8.7k so depends which model and what options, 220 seems alot of miles for a car that was rejected, but at the end of the day its there for all to see.
The insurance if its a Citroen offer won't extend to the 2nd hand cars, if its a dealer offer ask to see the Terms and conditions, ie don't trust him!
I'd be tempted to offer him less, he has to sell cars you don't have to buy them, he gets his commision on sold cars now ones in his show room.
Give us all some make and model details and look at the citroen website and knock at least a £1000 of the price for a second hand one if not more.
Citroen's website states that the free insurance is available to anyone over 20 (21 for C2 VTS/VTR) but that it is subject to the insurer's terms and conditions which could exclude new drivers.
As for the deal - you should be able to get better. Citroen dealers should be biting your hand off for a C1 - they may be able to offer you a better deal on a C2. As far as I know, the free insurance deal is only on new cars bought through Citroen's finance scheme, so a pre-registered car with 220miles on it would be classed as used, so wouldn't qualify.
If you're not happy with the salesman, try speaking to someone else in the dealership. If they don't help, take your business elsewhere! Other companies like Ford (Ka) and Peugeot (206) offer free insurance deals.

Guys thanks for the help, Just so you know its me that passed his test yes but driving doesnt intrest me the only reason i passed my test was so that my mum could get around (she is disaibled) and visit family (she never used to but when dad died of cancer last year she now needs the company)
Never trust a car dealer. Push them as hard as you can on every aspect of the deal and take no crap.
Remember that most are sleazy, arrogant con merchants with a nasty taste for cheap, ill-fitting suits and they like rubbing their hands together far more than is healthy.
If you're not happy just walk away and take your business elsewhere. These cretinous grease buckets need you far more than you need them.
Ok the model is the 5 door rythyhm its got the paint job i wanted and has air con with a few miles on the clock (its actually 150 not 220 *feels silly*) and the price will be £7,180 he said he'd throw in a free years servicing and a few other things but my main concern is the car insurance i know its only £650 but if i would have been offerd it on a "new" car then this just isnt the one for me he said "Citroen has small print saying the minimum you should have held your licence for to get the free insurance is 1 year" anyway i like the car it seems small enough for me to drive and definately roomy enough to get mum around and maybe pick her up for her shopping (i'm free during the day as i work nights) so the only thing thats in my mind is the insurance if indeed citroen cant give me it being a new driver then fine i'm happy with this.
Once again thanks for all your help you guys really know your stuff!
Ask to see this small print, and satisfy yourself that the salesman is not lying for once in his miserable life. ALWAYS assume that salesmen are lying until you have irrefutable evidence that they are being truthful.
If it is true and you are happy with the car, see if you can nail him down on price (£6950?) without foregoing the other extras that he has already offered you. I reckon there is still some room for negociation in there, just keep pushing until you reach the point where he really can't knock any more off.
If he starts on about how he'll be ''making a loss at that price, I'll get the sack...'' etc tell him to shut his face, you're not interested in his problems.
i find the best approach to salesmen to see if they are telling the whole truth is to approach them during a quiet time, like, for instance, the mechanics lunch break... ask him to show you the dealer facilites, like for instance the workshop... suspend him upside down by, for instance, an engine hoist..start to experiment with, for instance, lit welding torches or power drills etc....in very close proximity to, for instance, his face or family jewels....then ask him any pertinent questions you feel should be answered honestly.......
the above is a fictional account and has no bearing on the lifestyle of anyone living, dead or imaginary......
If driving really doesn't interest you, get something like a Hyundai Getz. You will get a good honest car (nothing flash) with 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty.
Quite simply it is 5 years of basic motoring with no unexpected costs or nasty surprises - and it will cost less than £7000 brand new

The 100,000 mile limit only applies to cars bought as taxis or driving school cars. Priavey cars have unlimited milage. Friend of mine has an 03 v6 coupe and has done 120,000 so far coming up to three years old and its still covered. Excellent
The only reason i wanted this car is for the milage i will be doing its great with fuel cheap to insure and tax and from what i hear cheap for everything else too.

Thats the clincher. Get a Getz 1.5 diesel.
It's cheap to buy & insure, boring and will never get your heart racing...but it will do 60mpg, never ever go wrong, never get stolen, the dealers are friendly and helpful and is easy for aging relatives to get in and out of.
No, your much better off in the class leading Kia Rio, superbly fabtatsic, nothing comes close, and i mean nothing.
Oh my Honda Dvd's have arrived!

Actually I strongly recommend the Citroen C2 1.4hdi Small and cheap like the C1. But one of the most fuel friendly cars out there. It can achieve nearly 80mpg on motorway runs.
