I have just been looking for one, for a friend and the best ones are up for a ridiculous £15K to £20K, 10 years old. What gives? They're not that good/collectable. Are they?
The first of the fast estate Audis. Didn't Porsche breathe on the engine? Still very fast cars although not up to the new RS6 V10 twin turbo standards. I'm also somewhat surprised at the price although much fewer were made than the relative commonplace RS4 et al.

a joint venture with porsche, designed in collaboration with the stuttgart boys, engine heavily reworked by porsche and featuring huge porsche brakes etc....these cars arent standard audi fare..they were assembled by..you guessed it...porsche too..
only available as an avant, .315hp standard, 163 mph limited and 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds make them pretty bloody special id say....less than 3000 made and less than 200 rhd models imported....very quick, very rare....and almost unrecogniseable to the s2 models audi made....
....you like big vauxhalls now then???...joke, course ya do..i love the batmobile-esque lotus carlton..but this time, and for a change, id side with ze germans..id have an rs2 over a lotus carlton i think...
The lure of 376 bhp std and 500 bhp tuned, would make me side with the Carlton. A twin-turbo, 3.6 litre, straight six, over a 2.2 single-turbo five, please!
twisty road, british weather, audi dissapears over horizon....carlton, which i adore, is a straight line hooligan special in comparison....and even with those twin turbos and lotus fettling....isnt is 'just' a straight six from a repmobile...??? haha
at about 145hp a litre and an old school installation id guess it would....still hits sixty in 4.8 secs....kinda amazing, those kinda figures these days require much more power.....both float my boat big style, and as ever it comes down to personaly prefference..both are virtually hand made but he rs2 is just that bit more special in my eyes...and im no badge snob as y'all know..i just love the compact dimentsions and supercar performance in a practical 5 door shell...there would be no room for my dogs in a lotus carlton....haha
for me, the lotus carlton shouts about its muscles, its boastful about its power, it tells you its gonna punch your face and steal your wallet and it knows there is nothing you can do about it....meanwhile, back at the ranch, the softly spoken audi, who has always impressed you with its brains and brawn, its understated style disguising its broad german shoulders, has stolen your girlfriend, sold your house and emptied your bank account......
...im all for a bit of stealth thuggerry....the loudest man in the room has the least to talk about remember.....
Not so sure about that. Mostly, the cars that do the business on paper, do it in practice! BMW M5 V10 or tuned-up 2 litre 'quiet boy'? I'll take 5 litres of screaming V10 please!

i was alluding to appearance...il take a big block v8 wrapped in a stylish body over the same engine stuffed into a halfords parts bin specail anyday....
m5 v10, tho i dont like the bangle bmws illustrates my point perfectly..it too is 'stealth thuggerry' ..it doesnt look too different than the rest of the range, doesnt shout 'lookit me'..it just gets on with quietly anihilating the competition...

I'll call him 'sir', too!
but you wont like him.....as iv alluded to before, im a big 'orrible thuggish lookin person...but my approach has always been to walk softly whilst carrying a big stick....serves you well in the long run....
RS2 for me, in that fetching lilac colour. Lovely.
Never really liked the Lotus Carlton. Probably because at the price they fetched at the time, you could have had a Lotus, and a Carlton.

The more i read about the RS2, the more i realise that it really is old-hat engine/technology; tuned up a tad too much. The turbo lag can make it quite a 'slow' car, in many circumstances.
This is exactly why i'd have an Evo FQ360 lX over an FQ400 V111.
