Warning to anyone with a 1.9 pug/Citroen diesel vehicle check your ancillery belts now!!

Mate's 406 belt snapped yesterday and went inside cam belt cover derailing cam belt with dire results.

This is the second time it's happend in under two years!! last repair bill was 2k

Spooky that it went at the same juction too.

Never heard of this one... I always keep mine serviced well so shouldn't be a problem.

Peugeot 406 = rubbish!

I had one for 4 years & I spent more time driving 307 courtesy cars than my own.
Roll Eyes

I will never buy a Pug again.

406 Isn't a bad car actually, just doesn't take kindly to aging/poor servicing.

Style-wise, Peugeot do nothing for me. I prefer Citroen every time! The last Peugeot I warmed to was the Pininfarina styled 605. Cool

Taxi drivers swear by the Peugeot 406, quite a few are above 300,000 miles!

To be fair, I had a petrol model. The diesel is probably better.

Well, I hope it is!!!!

All i can say is i had a 406 turbo diesel for two years, great car never had one single problem, put 40,000 on the clock, then traded it in for a spanking new 307hdi,worst mistake i ever made.In the first 2 weeks of ownership i had it for 4 days, never went longer than 2 months between being back at dealers because something had happened to it again.Had it 2 1/2 years and 36000 mile, dumped it and lost a shed load of money too....

It could be a 2.1 not a 1.9 if it makes a differance, will ask him tomorrow.

A lot of Peugeots' petrols are old fasioned rattly affairs. Their modern diesels are better in some cases. So it wouldn't surprise me to hear an unreliable petrol 406. And yes they're Taxi fodder, got very common so even with reasonable styling I'm still not interested in owning one.

406 Coupe is the only one of interest.
