im a big fan of his writing and find him to be an entertaining presenter...but im just watching an old episode of tg and how, in all honesty, can we take his authoritative statements on everything from superminis to supercars, including their handling and performance, seriously.....his tg lap time on his own test track, one he must surely be as familiar with as the stig is, is woefully inadequate in comparison to many celebs who only had an afternoons familiarization with the car and the track...his actual driving skill must be called into question...
He went to my school and got expelled(many years before I attended). There were quite a few legends about how he set fire to the tuck-shop and got into fights with all-and-sundry. He's a cheeky rebel who says exactly what he thinks. He knows how to express himself and holds nothing back.
He's not a very good driver and he's a pretty awful journalist (the reviews and statements he makes are entirely his own but he makes them sound as though everyone agrees with him). He can't learn how to use new gadgets (any car with a "flappy paddle" gearshift immediately sends him mad) and refuses to embrace new ideas.
He's the embodiment of upper middle-class England. That's why we love him. Even if he is a pr*t.
Very entertaining presenter, usually controversial so I imagine that he may annoy or offend some people. He has a way with words and his use of colourful expressions is very unusual for a motoring presenter.
Personally I think he talks a lot of sense, without the scruples of political correctness that blight most presenters and turn them into nothing more than inconsequential script readers. His opinions of Ken Livingston, flappy paddles, the French and global heating are also bang on.
I think he is great, he is fun and entertaining and it's nice to see a public person speak his mind without the usual platitudes. I don't pay too much attention to his opinions, but then I don't pay much attention to motor journalists in general as most of them have their own agendas, prejudices and are creatures of their own bias, at least Clarkson is open about being very opinionated with no pretence at being some great technical guru.
